Mission Possible

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to reach out to the lost of the world, those who need Jesus but have yet to ask Him into their lives.

Usually in a "Mission Impossible" episode, the "mission" would supposedly disappear within a few seconds of delivery. The bearer would then have the choice: accept or decline. Of course it was destined for that person to accept the mission, but the choice was still there. In every episode, the missions were always accepted. With the missions came excitement, adventure, danger, and many risks. But it didn't matter...it was a mission...a purpose.

Matthew 28:19-20 is commonly known as "The Great Commission". These verses give us a mission, a common goal and purpose to all who follow Christ. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

There are certain "missions" given to every follower of Christ, and this is one of those. WE are to witness...we are to show the hope of Christ to the world. We are to "make them disciples", which means to teach them and help them as new Christians.

Just like in the episodes of "Mission Impossible", we have the choice to accept or decline these missions. Yes, we are told...commanded...to do these things, but it's still our choice if we will obey...accept the missions.

Unlike the missions given on the TV show, the missions God gives us don't last for just a few seconds. They don't self-destruct if it takes us more than a few minutes to accept them. BUT if you don't accept them right away, there's always the risk that someone you could have witnessed to...taught or helped as a new Christian...won't be given a chance because you initally declined the mission...

Just as the "impossible" missions on TV are full of adventure, it's guaranteed that accepting God's mission to you will prove to be full of excitement...adventure...risks. But yes, just like the TV episodes, you will be on a mission...striving for a goal...working for a purpose.

Of course, the missions we are all given through the Bible are not the only missions God has for us. God also gives out individual missions...opportunities to each of us. To some He gives the misson of being a pastor or evangelist...or a foreign missionary. To others the missions are not marked as evident "mission-fields" but are still every bit as purposeful to God.

And there are also the short, temporary, or everyday missions too. These are the ones that God gives you when He speaks to you and tells you to go up and say hi to that new kid in class, or offer to babysit for a neighbor who is really stressed and needs some time alone out of the house!

To each of us we are given a great number of missions, ones that we can accept or decline. The choice is yours, what will you do when faced with that next "Mission Possible"?
