We conducted an interview with CNA (certified nurse's assistant) John Thorn. He has been a CNA for over seven years and currently works at the Hi-Desert Continuing Care Center (CCC) in Joshua Tree, California. He has had witness to many people from the medical field and has based his opinions on such.
#1) Many scientists feel that it is ethical to clone people. For them, it's just another venture for them to succeed in. They feel that it would be benificial to the world if they could succeed in cloning humans. Do you aagree or disagree-why?
~ I disagree. Scientists may think cloning to be ethical. I feel that no good can come from men playing God or trying to copy people.
#2) What would be the advantage/disadvantage of cloning people?
~ A person could be replaced without any one knowing the difference which could serve as both an advantage and a disadvantage.
#3) How do you feel the medical field would react to the success of cloning people?
~ I can't see too many people in the medical field being happy about cloning people. Their job is to help and heal, that does not include participating in or condoning the cloning process.
#4) From what you have observed (over the years) about people and their behaviors, would you say that people are more prone to react to subliminal messages/sleep teachings or not? Why?
~ Not everyone, but most people because, in general, we have a hard time thinking for ourselves. So if you plant an idea in their head, it will probably grow and they will respond.
#5) Say a person lost an arm. Would a clone prove to be useful as a replacement?
~ This might be the only advantage for clones. To have lost limbs regenerated.
#6) If everyone was cloned, would the clones be running around or would they have to be medically and scientifically kept alive and growing?
~ I think that it would depend on how exactly they were scientifically designed. That would be determined by the scientists.
#7) Would cloning be in the best interest of the medical profession or not? Explain.
~ For spare parts, maybe. Otherwise there would be no point because they would prove to be useless.
#8) In A Brave New World, they all took a drug named Soma. If they chose not to take the Soma, they were considered odd. What is your opinion on everyone taking a drug to remain constantly happy?
~ Never! You can't take away people's rights to do and act as they truly feel.
#9) What effect would that have on your body?
~ Once the body gets addicted to a chemical, it will crave it more and more. Then you'll do almost anything to keep that happiness and pleasure you receive from it.
#10) What do you feel the effect would be on both society and the medical field with both taking drugs and being chemically altered?
~It would be a catastrophe. There's no way our would would survive that because not everybody is going to agree with it, so it will self-destruct.
