El Morro
At last I'm here
It's the last leg
8000 feet the ground below
Just 200 left to go
This rock is home, my kin you see
Are here I know to welcome me.
The thermals now are very few
I seem to tire so easily
My head it hurts, my lungs they burst
On top of this an awful thirst,
A need to rest again
I think this is the end of me
I may not make it to the top, and yet I know I must.
They circle me, they urge me on
Another 50 feet to go
I reach the top and with a cry
I start to fly and circle high
The Hawks and eagles bow to me
Admiration in their eyes
My soul is home and now at rest
My heart withstood the final test
This Hawk now no more alone
Finds peace within
Amongst his kin.
