NEED COMPOSERS/Musicians for spoken word venture
Do
you play
the
drums,
guitar
(electric, acoustic, or classical),
cello,
bass,
flute,
harp,
piano,
harmonica,
or
a Chinese/Native American instrument?
Hi!
I’m looking for musicians who are good with
improvisation (hearing what the other player is doing) to
compose & accompany music with my poems in Gainesville, Florida.
I'm
envisioning a sound that would compliment but not compete with the words...to
have the same relationship water would have to paint if one was painting a
picture. Eventually, I would like to get the poems & music good enough to
record & do open Mic night around town.
I have much material to choose from & use (over 200 poems). I write
new stuff whenever I can. J
I
would like for the guitarist or the drummer to have solos in between poetry
recitations to create an atmosphere/mood equivalent with the poem's
style/subject matter. Guitarists & other musicians will be able to show
their stuff with solos & introductions. Drummers & poets share the some
sort of primitive beat...poets will hear beats inside words for a line. I enjoy a mixture of classical, rock, & ethnic
instruments. I particularly like jazz
& Afro-Cuban beats.
And
no, I don't want to copy the Beatniks because every time I tell people what I
wanna do they make fun of it & say it sounds really beatnik! See, Jim
Morrison (Doors) recites poetry but doesn't sing on some of his songs...that’s
what I find interesting. (I'm rather shy with singing!) I want to create something different with the help of talented & highly creative musicians! I appreciate interacting with disciplined & dedicated individuals who are
patient with themselves & others when they are working on a collaborative
project.
Time
Commitment: Whenever we can schedule it. When work & family time don't
conflict. :-) Try to get together bi-weekly...every other weekend & attend
composition/practice sessions at my house.
