A Candle in the Rain
A Candle in the Rain
I sit here with my beating heart
clutched between my fingers.
The love you promised quickly fades
though memory still lingers.
Your words of comfort fill my ears
and echo through my essence.
Your soft caress invades my skin
and imitates your presence.
Reminders of those lasting words
engrave themselves so deep.
They penetrate my every thought
and rape my mind of sleep.
Intruding thoughts of blissful nights
I spent without a care,
only makes my heart sink furthur
deeper in despair.
Love extinguished by the truth
you tried so hard to hide.
Emotionless you live your life
sheltered safe inside.
Exhaustion now my only friend
for sleep relieves the pain.
The elements, a harsh fight for
a candle in the rain.
