FOOTPRINTS in the BIGHORNS

Footprints in the BigHorns.midi

I look behind my shadow and see footprints

on the snow laden path

tracing my travels

in delicate imprints

that recognize I am home.

Cloud's Peak beckons me on

past the peaceful basins

toward the summit of my heart,

where I find peace

in the soft haven of the mountain.

I behold the beauties of God's harvest

as the frost tinted Indian Paintbrush guides the way.

Somewhere above Tensleep Canyon

I search again for my youth,

for I know my soul resides within these boundaries.

Time stops, as I feast upon the glories

and I feel my body absorb the Mountain Spirit once again.

I become one with the forest.

The pine needles are dressed in virgin white

welcoming my return.

I capture the picture before me deep within my mind,

so if ever I should forget what I am,

I can return.

As I slowly retrace my own footprints

that lead me back into man's domain,

I leave a bit more of myself in the care of the mountain.
