The False Prophet

  1. Often cited as a prophecy which came true, predicting the civil war, is Section 87 of the Doctrine and Covenants.  In this,  Joseph Smith predicted a war between the northern & southern states, with Great Britain assisting the southern states.  That much happened.  However, the prophecy goes on to predict that all nations would eventually become involved in the war, and that the war would bring an end to all nations, leaving only the saints who dwelled in holy places untouched.
  2. The Mormons once tried to open a bank, but couldn't call it that because they couldn't get approval to start another bank from the state, so the called it an "anti-bank-ing company".  Joseph Smith had a prophesy that this new company would swallow up the other banks of the world and be the only one left.  Today, the notes they printed only have value to historians or collectors.
