Quotes From Participants

Since I began this web site in January 1998, I have gotten responses from people all over the country. It's a very tangible example of how the internet can help foster community growth and bring people together. The following quotes are from participants and volunteers in the Tower Project. Many of the comments have been very inspirational to me throughout this year, and especially now that I am in the final stages of the project. After Burning Man, I will post comments from the guest book that will be out in the desert.

I was on your web site about The Tower for this year's BM and I was wondering what I could do to help. This will be my first Burning Man and I really want to become involved in it. I was in the military (guard duty) and have had massage training. My girlfriend and I are coming out on the 3rd of Sep. See you in 98!

I am a gypsy, rainbow witch, adventurer, and world traveler from California/Oregon. I am currently in Osteopathic Medical School. I have never been to Burning Man, but I knew immediately after surfing the main web page that I have to go, that this city in the desert will be the catalyst for me to reconnect to my inner essence.

Having been to many festivals, I know that the best experiences come from participating. Of all the themes listed, I was most drawn to your vision of The Tower. I would love to be involved. Or, more precisely, I think I am meant to be involved.

I am in training in hands on healing (which is why I came to osteopathic school, although we also learn and use drugs, surgery, and all that allopathic stuff....) so I could help make your garden a healing place. I am also looking to hook up with a camp, either at The Tower or elsewhere. Somewhere around considerate people who are into the more conscious aspects of what I hope this gathering embodies, who enjoy being primal and having fun but also like to sleep, meditate, etc... Feeling comfortable in my space is important to me, and I dont want to spend a week next to people who are constantly wasted and blasting heavy metal all night.

I am looking forward to this adventure! And to meeting many kindred spirits....Blessed Be!

I won't be at the festival until Monday or Tuesday as it is a long drive from Arkansas, but I would like to be of help once I get there. I like the sound of your project. I am a portly 53 year-old graying male with facial hair and tattoos. I can act, sing bass, beat on a drum, and do I-Ching readings.

I checked out your site and read about the Tower Installation and.....WOW it sounds really big and very interesting. I really like the concept of addressing one's ghosts, making peace with them, and letting them go.It seems like life is constantly that process at times.

Hello Rebecca! Just wanted to thank you for your emails, and info. I visited your web site and found it very appealing to me. When I first heard the theme of Burning Man 98 was "higher power" I was struck by the thought that in order to achieve one's higher power, one first needed to confront one's dark side, and shine a light on it. Once illuminated, this dark side may be revealed in its glory. If one is couragous enough to embrace this dark side, one may reach a higher power, for these dark sides are sources of much power.

That is a short synopsis of my thoughts on the theme, and very similar to yours. I felt comforted that others share a version of my vision. For so many of us, we are bound by the guilty thoughts that we harbor a "dark side" that must be hidden, if not purged completely. This irrational need to reject this part of ourselves leaves us unwhole, and confused. In many people, their dark sides are aspects of their sexuality, a great source of energy and power that is left to fester in some cold corner of our minds. I know I had a distinct vision of having a monster growing within me that was gaining strength and I feared it. With help from knowledgeable friends (like yourself) I was coaxed into looking at this monster, and I discovered it was only a part of me, and not anything fearsome at all. My embracing of this monster has given me tremendous peace and strength.

Thank you for your reaching out to others to communicate your similar message. In it lies the salvation of many souls. And thank you for your help on researching tent patterns. See you in September! I will make a point of trying to meet you.

Thank you for waking me up, and re-directing me on my path. My path has never ever been easy, and so I have probably spent more time attempting to escape from it, than following it. I have the power and the ability to do great things, and when I set my mind to it, things happen, no matter what the obstacles. I really like your ideas on your web site, and your perspective behind it. I would definitely like to be one of the healers on hand. I also have quite a few dreams. Depending on the life state I am in, they will come in as visions, although what, I am unsure. I have this feeling that my subconcious, or self, is storing them away somewhere for future use.Oftentimes, it is also avoidance of change.

) I currently live about 30 miles west of Boise, Idaho. I've been to the festival before and am in with the spirit of the happenings. You need tools? What - hand tools, big earth moving devices, shovels, rakes, and implements of destruction? I can usually get my hands on a wide assortment. Tell me your needs and I will try and fulfill.

This will be my second year at B-man and everything you said in your piece called "project intent" is right-on for me also. I am going to be part of another performance on Saturday night at Burning Man, but I will be sure to experience and participate in the Tower. I totally love the concept.
