"Ouch!" Phoebe cried out when her father hit a
bump in the road.
"Sorry honey."
She sighed. There she was in the backseat of
their car straped to a board being bumped all over the place. "I feel like
a freak
mom. I don't want anyone to see me straped to
this thing." She flicked the board in disgust.
"Well, you need support on your back until we
can get you in bed. You don't want anything else to happen to you. Besides...
it's only three weeks."
She dropped her mouth open. "ONLY three weeks!
Mom, that's like forever!"
Clarke spoke up. "I don't mean to sound rude,
but if you hadn't been in that tree spying on our neighbors in the first
place, then
this never would have happened."
Georgia looked at her daughter. "Honey just don't
think about that. All we need to do is concentrate on getting you better."
Phoebe closed her eyes. The accident played over
and over in her head. If only she could go back and change things. The
Blue
family pulled up in their driveway. Georgia opened
up her car door holding the pretty daises given to Phoebe by the Hanson
family. Diana and Walker had been at the hospital
that morning as promised. Clrake got out and opened up the back door.
Phoebe looked at him. He was upside down.
"Oh dad. This is so embarassing."
Her father smiled a little. "Well, this thing
is not heavy so let's hurry up and get you inside."
She laughed. "Hey now! I'm not heavy!"
Clarke chuckled at her. Georgia joined her husband
by his side, ready to help lift Phoebe.
"Oh god, here we go." She sighed and closed her
eyes to block out the sunlight. Her mom and dad pulled her out of the car
and took hold of the handles on each end of the
board. They carried her up to the porch and sat her down opening the front
door. Taylor sat on his porch watching them.
Poor Phoebe, he thought taking a sip of his soda.
He saw them go in, and close the door.
He looked down at the small "get well" gift he
held in his hands. He brushed his hair out of his face. He looked over
at her
house then back to his gift. "I'll give it to
her later on." With a sigh, he went inside his air conditioned house.
Phoebe's mom had helped her change into some more
comfortable clothes, once they were in her room. She got in her bed,
laying back slowly onto a heating pad. "There
we go now." Georgia covered her up with the sheet. She opened up the window
by her bed to let a cool breeze blow through
the room. Phoebe smiled.
"Thanks mom. Maybe this won't be so bad after
all."
"Well, I hope you can keep yourself entertained
for three weeks!" Georgia chuckled a little. "We will get your t.v. set
up soon."
Phoebe looked surprised. "Yeah cool. I totaly
forgot about my t.v."
Georgia walked over and picked up a stack of
magazines that Phoebe wanted read. "Where do you want these dear?"
"Just sit them on my night table."
She did so, then she turned and walked to the
door. "If you need something, just yell."
"Ok mom. I will. Thanks again." Her mom smiled
and left the room, making sure to keep the door open a little. Phoebe looked
at her magazines. She took the one on top.
"Big Bopper." She said aloud. Opening it up,
she saw a pic of Hanson. She flipped through to the other pics finding
a centerfold
of Taylor. She smiled.
If my back wasn't hurt, I'd put this thing up!
She sighed, and started to read.
Four hours and a million magazines later, Phoebe
found herself bored. And full from dinner. She sat her tray aside and
stretched her legs.
"What to do, what to do?" She was just about
to close her eyes, when she heard someone call her name. It sounded like
it was
coming from the yard. She was confused. "Hello?
Who is it?"
"It's me! Taylor!"
She smiled. "What are you doing out there Tay?
I can't see you."
"Can I climb up the tree? I need to give you
something?"
Her stomach flip flopped. "Ok, but please be
careful. I don't want you falling like I did."
"Ok, be right up." She waited patiently while
he made his way to her window. He popped his head in her room.
"Hey there." He jumped down onto the window seat.
"I see you got some more things organized." He
commented.
"Well, my mom did at least."
He nodded his head. "Mind if I sit down?"
"You can sit."
He moved her dinner tray to the floor and sat
down easy, trying not to make her move. "So, how are you feeling?" He felt
her
forehead.
"I'm alright. I'm a little full right now!" She
laughed a little.
Phoebe looked at the small gift. "What's that?"
"Oh yeah. I got this for you. I guess it's like
a get well present."
She smiled and took the gift from Taylor. It
was wrapped in pretty blue and yellow paper with flowers on it.
"I like the paper. I'll have to save it." He
laughed.
"I do the same thing."
She cut him a smile and opened the gift. Her
mouth dropped open when she saw what it was. "Wow Taylor! Thank you so
much! It's so pretty!" She stared in awe at the
small globe she held in her hand. Inside the globe was a Weeping Willow
tree
with a swing hanging from it. When she tipped
it, it looked like it was raining. "I love it!!" She exclaimed.
Taylor leaned over and gave her a kiss on the
lips. She blushed. "I thought of you when I saw it." He gave her a killer
smile.
She couldn't help but laugh.
"Oh, so that's how you get the girls, huh?"
He laughed back at her. "Well, I just can't help
myself can I?"
She rolled her eyes. "Oh, Mr Hotshot...I see
where your ego is going!"
They both broke out into a fit of laughter. Getting
control of herself once more, she sat the globe on her nightstand. "I'll
keep it
there. That way I can look at it all the time
and think of you."
He took her hand. "You're really sweet. I'm glad
that you moved in."
"Well, I'm glad that you are my neighbor." She
looked at her watch.
"Well, my fellow MMMBopper, I need to get some
rest. I'm a little tired from all the medicine."
He laughed. "MMMBopper? Aren't you funny. Ok,
well I'll be over tomorrow. I figure you'll need someone to talk to. Three
weeks is a long time."
Phoebe sighed. "Yeah it sure is. Thank you Taylor.
I would love it for you to come over. I'll see you in the morning."
He leaned over and gave her a small hug. "Get
some sleep now. Bye!"
He walked over to the window and stepped out.
"Be careful Tay!"
"I will!" She heard Taylor drop to the ground
a few seconds later.
"I made it my fair maiden!!"
She laughed. "Good job Romeo!"
Taylor chuckled and walked into his house. Phoebe
reached over and turned out her light.
Well isn't this sad. It's summer and I'm in bed
by eight She laughed a little and closed her eyes, making sure she had
one last
look at the wonderful gift from Taylor.
"Beep! Beep!" Phoebe's alarm went off at 10:00am
the next morning. Yawning, she opened her eyes and just stared. She was
about to sit up when she remembered that she
couldn't.
Oh great. She sighed. She heard someone coming
up the stairs. Georgia walked into her room with a glass of water and her
medicine.
"Good morning Phoebe. How did you sleep last
night?" Georgia handed her the water and pill. "Here, take this. Your muscles
should relax after a while."
She swallowed the pill and covered up again.
"I feel so weird. Like, I should be out doing something. I am such a clutz
mom."
Georgia smiled a little. "Well, we all learn
from mistakes. You'll get through this. Just mark off the days on your
calendar!" Her
mother gave her a warm smile.
Phoebe laughed a little. "Yeah, I'll have to
make the best of this."
Her mother got off the bed. "How about we get
you cleaned up, and into some clothes? Your father and I have to be at
the set
in a few hours."
Her mouth dropped open. "You're leaving me?"
Georgia put her hands on her hips. "Honey, we
have to be there. We moved for this job."
"But who will be here to help me out if I need
something?" She was getting upset now.
"It's ok. Calm down now. Mrs. Hanson and I had
a talk this morning. Taylor wants to be here with you. He asked if he could.
Plus Phoebe, we only work four days out of the
week. And they are only nine hour days. It will all work out."
Phoebe looked sad on the outside, but was feeling
really happy now. "Well... I guess that's ok. I can call you on your cell
phone though, right?"
Georgia smiled. "Sure! That's why I have it."
Just then her mother noticed the little globe on her nightstand. She picked
it up.
"Where did you get this?" Her mother gently tipped
it over.
"Taylor gave it to me as a get well gift. Isn't
it pretty?"
"Yes, very pretty. That was sweet of him. You
two seem to get along with each other." She sat it back down on the nightstand.
"Yeah we do. He's a nice guy."
"Well that's good." Her mother looked at her
watch. "Come on now. Let's get you ready for the day." Phoebe sighed a
little
and got up slowly while her mother found her
some clothes.
Phoebe's mom had helped her blowdry her hair,
and get dressed. After all that, she ate breakfast in bed, while her dad
visited
with her for a while. An hour later, Georgia
and Clarke came in her room again to say goodbye. Just as her mom and dad
were
walking down the stairs, the door bell rang.
Clarke opened up the door to find a smiling happy Taylor.
"Hi Mr. Blue!"
"Hi Taylor, come on in." He walked in and looked
around.
" I see you are leaving now."
"Yes, we are. I hate leaving Phoebe though. But,
I have to."
Taylor nodded his head. "Don't worry about Phoebe.
She's in good hands. I'll take care of her."
Clarke smiled and shook his hand. "You're such
a mature young man. Thank you so much for doing this. It means alot."
"No problem Mr. Blue. I wanted to."
Georgia walked to the door with her purse. "Hi
Taylor!"
"Hi!" He replied with a smile.
Clarke opened up the door and stepped onto the
porch with Georgia. "Phoebe's already had breakfast. She just upstairs...
being bored." Clarke laughed a little.
"Thanks. We'll see you two later tonight. Bye!"
He waved and stood at the door watching them pull away from the house.
He
shut and locked the door, then he took off up
the stairs to Phoebe's room.
Taylor knocked on her door. "Come on in Taylor!"
He walked in and gave her a smile. "So, here
I am!"
She laughed. "Thanks a bunch for being with me.
I freaked out when they said they were leaving!"
"Yeah, I would too!"
He sat down on her bed. She was painting her
nails. "So, what do you want to do?" He asked her.
She sighed. "I don't know. They should make a
book called, "What to do when you are injured and bored". That would be
a
bestseller!"
She laughed a little hard, jerking her nail polish
bottle and spilling it on her white t-shirt.
"Crap! Aww man! Look what I did!" Phoebe stared
at her shirt in disgust.
"Yep, that will be a hard stain to get out."
She put the lid on the bottle and sat it on the
nightstand. "I gotta change this shirt. I don't want to smell like nail
polish all day."
Taylor laughed. "Yeah not my choice of a perfume."
"Yeah really. Can you look in my closet and grab
a t-shirt for me. Any kind will do."
"Sure thing. One t-shirt coming up!" Taylor jumped
up and went over to her closet. He picked out a blue tee with a butterfly
on
it.
"Here you go. You sure do like butterlies."
She smiled. "Yeah I do. They're cool." She looked
at the shirt and at Taylor.
"How am I going to get this on?"
He chuckled. "I guess I'll have to help you.
You can't really move on your own."
She blushed. "Ok, but close your eyes please.
I feel stupid already. Besides, I'm all bruised up."
Taylor laughed. "I would have closed them anyway!"
She smiled. "Sure..."
"Hey now!" He laughed and walked over to Phoebe.
"Put your arms up."
Phoebe blushed furiously and stuck her arms in
the air.
