Taylor and Phoebe had dinner and talked for a
little while. At nine, her parents came home as planned and Taylor explained
the
fever and what he had done for her, to them.
Georgia and Clarke were very happy that she was in such good hands. Taylor
gave her a hug and said goodbye to Georgia and
Clarke before leaving.
Closing the door, he looked up at the sky. It
was really clear and Jupiter was very bright and close. He thought of that
night
when he pointed it out to Phoebe.
"You see that very bright star?"
"Yes, I see it."
"You see, that's not really a star afterall. It's a planet. Jupiter to be exact."
"Wow, really?"
"Yeah, and with a really nice telescope you
can see the Red Storm. Even though it's only the size of a grain of salt,
but
you can see it."
"That's really neat, Taylor. How do you know that? Do you like all the stars and planets?"
"Yeah, besides music, looking at the sky is
one of my favorite things to do. I love learning new things about it. There's
so much out there that we don't even know
about."
"Maybe we can look at the stars one night together."
"I would like that. Alot." Those words rang through his head as he stared up at the sky lost in thought.
"Taylor? TAYLOR?"
He jumped and turned around to see Isaac trying
to het his attention. "Oh, hi Ike."
"Hi... Taylor. What were you doing?"
He felt so stupid. "Nothing. Are you ready to
go or something?"
Isaac walked over to the car. "Yep. The movie
starts in thirty minutes."
"Ok, let me go change. I'll be out in a sec."
He ran through the yard and up to his house. He quickly ran inside, up
the stairs and
threw his closet door open. "Where are all my
jeans??"
The only pair of pants clean were his black leather
ones. "Oh great. Yeah, let me sweat to death in these." He sighed and
slipped them on, hoping that the theater would
be cool. He picked out his black shirt with the white stripes and his black
army
boots. He looked at himself in the mirror and
laughed.
"Oh man. This looks lame." He shook his head
and left the room.
Taylor got in the passenger seat of the car and
crossed his arms.
"Yeah, Mr. Rocker... nice statement you got going
there." Isaac laughed at his brother.
"Oh, just knock it off. Look at you!"
He looked at his clothes. He had on bright orange
pants with a lime green and blue striped t-shirt and a pair of blue boots.
"What are you? A box of crayons?" Talyor then
returned the laugh.
They stared at each other and then laughed again.
"Man, we are bad... but it will have to do cause I don't want to be late."
Taylor nodded. "Yeah, let's just go. I'm getting
hot all ready."
"You got it buddy." Isaac backed out of the driveway
and headed off to the movies.
Ten mintues later, they were pulling up in the
parking lot. There were alot of young people standing outside. "Great...
we are
probably going to start some riot. Man..." Taylor
stared out the window.
"Where's Zac by the way?"
"Oh, he fell alseep... I guess his battery was
low." Isaac laughed.
"Alright, it's now or never. Let's just hurry
up and get inside." Taylor took a deep breath.
They opened up the car doors and started off
towards the sidewalk that led to the entrance. A few teenagers looked at
them
and their mouths dropped open. You could hear
"Hanson" being whispered all over. Luckily, nobody had the guts to talk
to
them, so they made their way in the theater without
any hassle. Stepping inside, Taylor welcomed the rush of cold air on his
face.
"Let's get some snacks dude." Isaac took off
to buy some candy.
Taylor was right behind him, when he saw a girl
running towards one of the theaters. She wasn't paying any attention to
anyone
else and she ran into Isaac causing him to fall
down. Taylor jumped out of the way, so he didn't fall.
"Man, twice in one day..." He started to say
when he saw that it was the same girl who knocked him down earlier that
day.
"You again!" He pointed at her and stood up.
"I'm, I... I'm sorry! I didn't mean to! Please
forgive me! I gotta go..." She ran off and into a theater before he could
say another
word.
"That chick has some serious problems." Taylor
commented.
Isaac stared at the theater. "Alright, her movie
gets out ten mimutes after ours does. We're going to find out just who
she is!"
Taylor had bought some jellybeans and was chewing
on them. "Yeah, sure...what are we going to do? Stalk her until she
reveals her secret identity?" He laughed and
almost choked on a jellybean.
"I don't know... its like I HAVE to know who
she is. I mean, there's a reason why we keep bumping into each other."
While he was telling him all this, Taylor bought
another box of jellybeans and a large popcorn. Isaac turned around and
saw
Taylor stuffing his face.
"Man, get a grip!" He took the empty jellybean
box out of his hands. "You ate the whole box already? You've only had it
two
minutes!"
Taylor looked all innocent.
"There has to be some sort of group you can join
about this jellybean obsession."
"I am not obsessed." He pulled out the other
box and popped another handful into his mouth.
"Yeah, sure Tay. Just don't puke on me when you
get a stomach ache."
Taylor rolled his eyes.
"Come on, lets go and get our seats." Isaac took
the popcorn away. "I think I'll have some before you eat it all..." He
took a
little bit and they walked into the theater laughing.
Taylor and Isaac left the theater after the movie
was over. They were now standing outside.
"Alright, when she comes out you know what do."
Isaac said to Taylor.
He leaned against the wall. "Why do I have to
talk to her? That doesn't make any sense at all."
"Yes it does! She didn't even notice you, but
if she sees me again, she'll just run off. Don't you get the point now?"
"Yeah, whatever." Taylor sighed.
Ten minutes later, she excited her theater.
"Go Tay! There she is!" He pointed at her.
"Ok, I'll be right back."
Isaac hid behind the corner and Taylor trotted
off after her. "Hi! What's up?" He said to her.
"Um, nothing much. Who are you and what do you
want?" She said to him.
"That's what I want to know. Who are you?"
She looked around nervously. "Why should I tell
you my name?"
Taylor sighed. "What am I going to do? Stalk
you if you give me your name? Jeez, it's just a question." He put his hands
in his
pockets and started walking off.
Issac was watching as Taylor went right along
as planned.
"Wait!" She yelled back to him.
He smiled and turned around, pleased that the
plan was working. "Yeah, what?"
"My name is Veronica. There, are you happy now?"
She bought a box of Jr. Mints and stared at him.
"How old are you?" He asked her.
"I'm sixteen. Now, can you please tell me why
you are asking me all these questions?"
"Well, Veronica... I was curious because in one
day you managed to knock over my two brothers and then just left. Very
strange in my book."
Her face flushed. "Oh... that's why. I'm sorry.
I have to go..." She started off towards the exit.
"Where do you live?" He shouted out to her.
She looked over her shoulder. "Yeah sure. Like
I would tell you that. You look like some punk. Forget it."
He just stood there. "Well, well you look like
a...a... um..." Before he could get another word out, she left.
Isaac ran over to him. "Well? What did you get
out of her?" He looked very anxious.
"Her name is Veronica and she is sixteen. She
is also a you know what I think. Very rude."
Isaac looked at the exit. "Veronica. That's a
cool name."
Taylor sratched his head. "Yeah, great name.
Let's go home now. She called me a punk you know."
Isaac laughed. "Well, at least she didn't call
you something worse. Remember that other girl?"
He closed his eyes. "Yeah, how could I forget."
Isaac laughed. "Alright, we can go now. At least
I know her name. I'll find out more though..." He started off towards the
doors.
Taylor glanced over at him and quickly bought
another box of jellybeans. "Yeah, let's go." He said as he caught up to
him.
He heard the jingle of the jellybeans and gave
Taylor a look.
"What? What did I do?"
He laughed. "Nothing. Nothing at all."
Taylor woke up and yawned. It was around ten in
the morning the next day. He didn't have to stay with Phoebe today. Her
mom was off until Monday. He sighed. Suddenly,
he sat up with a great idea. He quickly threw some clothes on and went
to
find Isaac.
"Isaac, there you are! I have been running all
over this house looking for you."
He looked up from his cereal bowl. "Gee Tay,
I must have done a great job of hiding at the kitchen table." He laughed.
"So,
what do you want?"
"Oh yeah. Well can you drive me to the mall?
I have to buy a few things."
He thought for a moment then looked back at his
brother. "What do you have to buy?"
"Stuff..." He said trailing off. He reached over
and grabbed an apple from the fruit basket.
"Come on Tay! Just tell me!" He sat his spoon
down. "Wait, I know what you are buying. Or should I say buying for?" He
smiled at Taylor.
"Fine Ike. Yes, I'm buying something for Phoebe
today."
"Uh huh. And what might you be looking for my
blond haired brother?"
Taylor frowned a little. "Well, I need a ring
and..."
Isaac almost choked on his cereal. "A ring? This
doesn't sound like you! Wait... are you asking her out?"
He blushed at the thought. "Yes. I am."
Isaac laughed. "So, Taylor's first "real" girlfriend.
I can't believe it." He got up and took his bowl to the sink.
"What's not to believe? I don't really care if
I haven't ever had a "real" girfriend. At least I haven't been dumped by
a million
girls like you have." Taylor waltzed around to
the other side of the table watching his brother turn red.
"That's not true! I was dumped by two girls and
I broke up with three."
"Jeez, Ike. Keeping tally?" He laughed.
"Oh yeah sure. Well, whatever. Let's drop the
subject. I'll take you to the mall. Be ready in an hour." He grabbed a
juice box
from the fridge and headed back to their room
to get dressed.
Taylor lounged in the chair and smiled. He had
everything planned out.
An hour and fifteen minutes later, they stood
at a jewelry counter staring at all the rings.
"Ok, not to sound cheap or anything, but no gold.
She likes silver the best."
"How do you know that?" Isaac asked him.
"Well, because. All of her rings, earings, bracelets
and necklaces are silver. I noticed that when I first met her."
Isaac smiled. "You observe well. How refreshing."
Taylor sighed. "I like these two the best." He
pointed to a small love knot silver ring and to one with a small flower
in the middle
of it.
"Hmm, well I like the love knot the best. It's
cool." Isaac said.
"Yeah, me too. I like it." Taylor waved for the
clerk to come over and assist them. She pulled out the ring and handed
it to
Taylor.
"Looks like it will fit."
Isaac took the ring and looked at it as well.
"Yep, looks great. If it doesn't fit, we can always get another one."
Taylor took it back. "Yeah we can. Ok, then it's
settled. The love knot ring it is." The clerk smiled and rang it up, putting
it in a
small black velvet box. He took the bag and headed
out of the store and towards a candy shop in the mall.
"Ok, so what are we getting here?" Isaac asked
in a Beavis & Butthead voice.
He laughed. "Candy..." He looked at Isaac like
he was crazy and laughed again.
"Oh you happy child." Isaac smiled and went into
the store with him.
Ten minutes later, they emerged with a small box
of chocolates.
"Think she will like this?"
"Yeah man! You got the whole deal going on now.
She will melt like candy Tay."
Taylor smiled, pleased with himself.
"Oh, I forgot to buy jellybeans! I wanted to
pick some up."
Isaac made a face. "What? What? Jellybeans? Again?"
"Are you a broken record or something Ike? Yes,
jellybeans. Sit here. I'll be right back." He ran back into the candy store
and
Isaac plopped down on a bench.
He watched Taylor enter the store. He stretched
his legs out not looking, and tripped someone.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry! Are you ok?" He asked
the girl laying on the floor.
She looked up at him. His mouth dropped open.
"It's you again!" He said to her.
Veronica stood up and brushed off her clothes.
"Yeah and this time YOU made me fall. Are we even yet?" She turned and
started walking off.
"Wait!" He yelled and took off after her.
Taylor walked out of the store and noticed that
he wasn't sitting on the bench anymore. With a sigh, he sat down to wait
for his
brother.
Taylor was scanning the mall, looking for his
brother. He sat his bag down and just sat there. He looked over to his
right and
noticed that he was in front of a music store.
Curious, he watched some of the shoppers. He noticed two girls race over
to the
posters and reach for one.
"NO! I GET THIS HANSON POSTER!!! YOU HAVE ALL
THE OTHER ONES!!!" One of the girls yelled, loud enough
to shake the mall.
He dropped his mouth open at the sight of them.
The other girl threw her purse down and was now trying to fight for the
poster. She jumped on her back and was grabbing
for it. A few sales clerks ran over and tried to break up the fight. He
stood
up. He needed to get away from there before they
noticed him. He picked up his bag and walked around the bench. He
glanced over at the girls and he made eye contact
with one of them. She didn't seem to notice anything, so he picked up his
pace and walked further into the mall.
"Wait! Would you please stop running from me?"
Isaac yelled out in desperation.
Veronica stopped and turned around to face him.
"What is it with you and your brothers? Can I not get away from you guys?"
She put her hands on her hips.
He caught his breath. "Why... do... you... keep...running?"
"Are you ok?"
He nodded. "Yes, I'm fine now. Can you please
answer my question?"
She sighed and rolled her eyes popping her gum
out of her mouth. She stuck it under a bench nearby. "Ok, you want the
truth?
Fine I'll give it to you. I don't like "MMMBop"
or Hanson. You are one of them right?"
He was feeling really lame all of a sudden. "Yes...I'm
one of them."
She crossed her arms. "After I knocked you over,
I realized who you were. I just don't like your music or you for that matter.
Besides, what would all my friends think if I
started hanging out with a Hanson?"
Isaac frowned. "Well I'm so sorry to have bothered
you. And you know what else? If you want to judge me because you don't
like our music then fine. Don't even get to know
the person. I regret the day I even thought twice about you. Don't worry.
You
are forgotten as of today. You're not worth the
hassle anyway. My brother was right. You are a snob." With that, he turned
around and left Veronica standing in the mall,
shocked.
Isaac plopped down on the bench back over by the
candy store. He put his head in his hands. "Why me?" He said aloud.
"Why are you talking to yourself?" Taylor asked.
He walked up just as he sat down.
"I can't believe what just happened." He said
to Taylor.
"What? Did you do something?"
Isaac nodded. "Yep. I ran into Veronica a few
minutes ago. I found out that the reason she keeps running from me is because
she is a hater."
Taylor looked shocked. "For real? Aww, man that
sucks."
"Yeah it does. And that's not the worse part!"
Taylor shook his head. "Jeez Isaac! What?"
He rubbed his forehead. "I told her she was forgotten,
that I wouldn't be coming around her anymore, that I regreted the day I
thought twice about her, and then I called her
a snob. Basically, I made a huge scene in the middle of the mall for anyone
to
see."
"You have never acted like that before. Not to
a girl for that matter."
"I know... I feel so stupid. How could I go so
low? I should have just turned around and not said a word to her."
"Well, what's done is done. Lets just get out
of here before you see her again. We'll talk on the way home."
Isaac stood up. "Alright. Let's leave."
Taylor followed him out of the mall, looking
one more time at the now calm music store.
