CHAPTER SEVEN - DISCOVERING

Jessica woke up and looked at the clock. It was 12:35.
"AHH!!! Joey wake up!!!"
Joey jumped out of bed and looked around trying to focus her eyes.
"What? What is it Jessie?"
She tossed her the clock.
"AHHH!!! We are so late!!!" Joey screamed.
The two girls ran around the room finding their clothes and shoes. They were late for the skating rink. Some of Joey's friends
wanted to meet them there at 11:30. They weren't allowed to go at night, and they had other plans that day as well.
"What am I going to wear??" Joey exclaimed.
"I don't know, just find something!! Your closet has everything in it!!" She pulled on her jean shorts and t-shirt.
Joey opened up the closet door and walked in. "OH, I found something!" She pulled out her t-shirt dress. "This should be
alright."
There was a knock at the door. Joey quickly pulled the dress on and ran over to open it. It was just Maddy.
"Are you two almost ready?" She held the car keys in her hand.
"Uh, yeah. Just let me go brush my hair." Joey ran to the bathroom.
"You look nice Jessie." Maddy commented.
She smiled. "Thanks."
Maddy smiled back. "Ok, let's go. Joey can meet us downstairs."
They went downstairs and Joey quickly finished her hair. They all got in the car and headed off to the skating rink.

They paid for their tickets and skates, then they entered the rink.
"Wow, pretty crowded. That's weird." Joey said looking at all the kids.
"Do you see your friends? I don't."
Joey looked around. "Ah, who cares. Let's just go skate. They can find us." She took off and Jessica was right behind her.
They skated for a while and then they stopped, needing a drink. Jessica went over to the snack bar and sat down at a booth
while Joey ordered some drinks. She noticed that a guy was staring at her. She looked away and then looked back. He was
still looking. He looked around her age and he had blonde hair. She smiled and he smiled back, then he skated over to her.
"Uh..." Jessica said feeling a little nervous. This was the first time she had been approached by a guy.
"Hey." He said now standing by her table.
"Hi." She said back.
"My name's Luke. What's yours?"
"I'm Jessica but everyone calls me Jessie."
He smiled. "That's cool. So, are you here with anyone?"
"I'm here with my friend, Joey."
His face fell. "Oh, is he your boyfriend?"
She couldn't help but laugh. "No, Joey is a girl. She's my best friend." She pointed over to the line. "She is ordering us drinks."
He smiled. Joey walked over with two sodas. She looked over at Luke and then to Jessica. "Who's this Jessie?"
"This is Luke." She answered.
"Hi." He said to her.
"Hi." She sat down by Jessica.
He just sorta stood there for a few moments, and Jessica thought she'd ask him to sit with them. "Um, do you want to sit
down?"
"Sure! Just let me go tell my sis that I'll be sitting over here now."
"Who's your sister?" Joey asked.
He pointed to a girl with short blonde hair. "That's her. Her name is Macy."
Jessica's stomach jumped. "Did you say Macy?"
Joey looked at Jessica. They both had heard Zac's story about the "Macy" girl.
"Yeah, I'll be right back." He skated over to his sister.
"Oh my god Joey! That's the girl that pulled Zac into the water!"
Joey stared at her. "She's prettier than me isn't she?" She asked her after looking at Macy.
Jessica about choked on her soda. "No way! You are way prettier. And nicer. You wouldn't pull Zac into the water."
She looked back over at her. She didn't like this Macy girl not one bit.

"You want to sit with her?" Macy asked looking at Jessica.
"Yeah. She asked me."
Macy looked at Tisha and rolled her eyes. Tisha laughed. "Fine, but you have to walk home by yourself. We are leaving. I have
to stop by someone's house." She walked over to the exit of the snack bar.
Luke shrugged and walked back over to their table. Macy left the rink with Tisha.
"She looked alot like that guy." She said.
Tisha nodded. "For real. He is so cute Macy."
Macy turned around. "Excuse me?? I told you already Tisha. He is mine! Stop saying he's cute."
She rolled her eyes. "Jeez, sorry."
Macy turned back around and kept walking.
"I can't believe Brooke is grounded. Did she have to say that junk to her sister?" Tisha said, popping a piece of gum in her
mouth.
"Oh I know. Loser." They both laughed.
Ten minutes later they found themselves in front of a house. The Hanson house. "Do you think he is home?" Tisha asked.
Macy rolled her eyes. "Like I know. Let's just go knock on the door already." She walked across the yard and up to the door.
Tisha walked up beside her. She knocked. A few seconds later Taylor opened up the door. Tisha's mouth dropped open. She
thought he was way cuter than Zac. She tried to fix her hair a little.
"Hi is Zac home?"
"Yeah, hold on. I'll get him."
Tisha looked at Macy once he was gone. "Wow, he is so cute!"
She laughed. "Yeah and like way too old for you."
She frowned. "Well...maybe."
Zac walked to the doorway and froze. "What are you doing here?" He said almost yelling.
Taylor walked back over to the door when he heard the tone is his voice.
"Is something wrong Zac?" He asked.
"Yeah. There is. This is the girl that pulled me into the pond."
He looked at Macy. "You pulled him into the pond?"
She suddenly felt very stupid for even coming over. "Yeah..." She said trailing off. Tisha totaly looked the other way.
"I don't think Zac wants to see you." He said.
Zac walked away to go get something.
"Well, I want to see him." She said with a smile.
"Huh? He doesn't like you. I'm not trying to be rude, but that's the truth."
Zac walked up behind Taylor holding something behind his back. He stepped in front of him. "Well, all I have to say to you is
this." He dumped a whole cup of water over Macy's head. And it was freezing cold water too.
"AHH! You little punk!" She screamed and ran off the porch with Tisha.
"Don't ever come back here!!" He yelled and slammed the door.
Taylor busted out laughing. "Gimme five Zac!"
He smacked his hand and started laughing too. "They so deserved that!" Zac exclaimed.
Taylor shook his head. "You have guts man!"
He smiled. "Yep, I sure do."

Phoebe walked into the kicthen to take her medicine. She had a little pain, but nothing really serious. She slipped her sandals on
and headed out front to check the mail. She looked over after she heard a girl screaming. She was soaking wet. She opened up
the mailbox and took out the envelopes. The girl continued to make a scene. Phoebe decided to go see what was wrong. She
approached the girl slowly then spoke up.
"Are you ok?"
The blonde haired girl wiped the water out of her face, making her eye makeup smear. "No! Does it look like I am ok?" She
screamed to her.
"No... why are you wet?" She asked.
"Because that boy... Zac, dumped water all over me! He is a jerk!"
She smiled a little. It was hard not to laugh. Taylor looked out the window. "Hey Zac! Phoebe is out there talking to her. I'm
gonna go see what's up."
Zac ran to the window to watch. He opened the door up and walked across the lawn. Phoebe smiled when she saw him.
"Hey girl!" He gave her a kiss.
Tisha looked mad.
"Eww, she is your girlfriend?" Macy asked in disgust.
"Yeah you got a problem with that?" He said right back to her.
Macy rolled her eyes.
"You two need to leave now." He said walking back across the yard with Phoebe.
"Fine. We are gone!" They both took off down the sidewalk.
Phoebe started laughing. "Man, they have some serious problems."
He laughed and hugged her again. The he kissed her on the cheek.
"You must be in a good mood today." She said blushing.
"I am now that you are here."
She blushed even more. They sat down on the front steps. She looked through the letters.
"Oh, I have another letter from Judy!" She exclaimed.
She tore it open. It read:

Dear Phoebe,
Hey grrrrlie!! What's up? I hope your back is better.
I got your last letter saying that I could come see you.
I can't wait! I miss you so much even though you haven't been gone long.
So... how does it feel to live in the SAME state as Hanson?
Everyone here is soooo jealous! You are very lucky.
I wonder if we can find them? That would be cool!
I hope they come to Tucson for a concert! That would rock and all, but I couldn't go with you!
Wahhh!!! :( Oh well. At least I get to see you soon.
Hey, call me when you get this letter. I included a calling card. :D
I'm gonna go. Sorry so short! Bye!
L.Y.L.A.S,
Judy <3
She held the calling card in her hand. "I should call her."
Taylor smiled. "Wanna use my phone?"
"Sure!"
He got up. "Be right back."
A few seconds later, her plopped down beside her with his black cordless phone.
"Here."
She took it and started dialing. Once the code was put in, it rang to Judy's house.
(Author note: Phoebe's words are in Yellow, Judy in Gray, Taylor in Orange & anyone else that calls is in Black. Outside the
phone comments are white.)

"Hello?"
Hi! Can I speak to Judy?"
"This is she."
"Oh my god! I didn't know your voice!"
Judy laughed.
"You never do! You got my letter?"
"Yep, I am reading it over again as we speak."
"Cool! You sound like you are outside? Are you?"
"Yep, I'm over at my boyfriends house."
She looked at him and winked.
"WOW! You have a boyfriend already?"
"Yep, he is so sweet too."
He blushed and grabbed her hand.
"He is sitting right here."
"What's his name?"
"Taylor."
There was silence on Judy's end.
"Like... Taylor Hanson?"
Phoebe laughed.
"No, not Taylor Hanson. In fact, he is better than Taylor Hanson."
He started to laugh.
"Hey, you wanna talk to him?"
"Yeah sure! I wanna hear what he sounds like."
"Ok, hold on." She covered up the phone with her hand.
"Just play along, ok"? She said to him.
He nodded.
"Hey this is Taylor."
"Hi Taylor! Wow, you have a nice voice."
"Yeah, I get that alot."
She smiled.
"So, you have known Phoebe for a while?"
"Yep. A long time. She is great."
"Yeah she is."
"I hear you like Hanson?"
"Yeah, they are the best band! Do you like them?"
"I have a certain place for them in my cd collection."
She busted out laughing.
"I would love to have the MMMBop and Boomerang cd's. I bet Phoebe can get them."
"I can get them. Hey, I'll take Phoebe and show her where they are. I'm sure she wouldn't mind sending them to you."
"Thanks so much!!"
"No problem. I'll give you back to Phoebe now."
"Ok, nice talking!"
"Yeah you too."
"Thats so nice Tay!!" She leaned over and gave him a kiss. He blushed.
She smiled and got back on the phone.
"So, that's him!"
Judy laughed.
"He sounds like a nice person."
There was a beep.
"Hang on a sec. There's a beep."
Phoebe clicked for the other line.
"Hello?"
"Hi, may I please speak to Diana?"
"Yeah hold on please."
Phoebe clicked back to Judy.
"I gotta run. There is a call for his mom."
"Ok, no problem. We should save some of the calling card anyway."
She smiled.
"I'll talk to you soon! Bye Judy!"
"Bye!"
She gave him the phone and he ran it inside to Diana. She brushed off her green tank top and fixed her shorts while Taylor was
inside. She heard her front door open and Georgia came out with her purse.
"Hey mom, where are you going?" She yelled.
"I'm going to the mall to pick up a few things. Would you like to come?"
"Yeah sure! I'm gonna go say bye to Tay."
"Ok, I'll be in the car."
She ran back over to his house just as he was coming back outside.
"Tay, I'm gonna go with my mom to the mall. I don't think we'll be gone long."
"Ok, cool. I'll see ya later, ok?" He hugged her goodbye.
"Yeah, see ya!"
She ran back over to her house and got in the car.
He watched them drive off. He looked down at the steps. She left her letter from Judy there. He leaned down and picked it up.
He put he calling card in the envelope and went inside.

Jessica had decided to let the "Macy" thing not get in her way about Luke. After all, he didn't do anything to Zac. Joey was
getting really bored. Jessica kept talking to Luke and they hadn't skated in almost an hour.
"That's so funny!" She exclaimed and one of Luke's many jokes.
"Isn't that so funny Joey?"
She nodded her head and sighed. "Are we going to skate at all?? We have to go in twenty minutes."
He looked at his watch. "I have to go anyway. Maybe I'll see you around Jessie." He gave her a big smile.
"Oh, well here." She wrote down her phone number on a napkin and handed it to him.
"Cool, thanks! I'll call you later tonight."
She waved. "Ok, Bye!!"
Joey's mouth was still hanging open. "I can't believe you gave him your phone number! You don't even know him!"
She rolled her eyes. "He is only eleven Joey! He can't even drive a car. He is harmless." She took a sip of her soda.
"Well, whatever. Can we skate now?" She stood up and skated over to the floor.
"Ok, I'm coming."
They took off into the crowd of skaters. Joey kept her distance from her. Jessica was now feeling upset.
"Joey, are you mad at me?"
Joey stopped skating and went over to the side with her. She crossed her arms.
"You are mad aren't you!?"
Joey sighed. "Well, yeah. You came here with me and then you blow all of our time talking to some boy you just met! It's kinda
rude."
She laughed a little. "Why, are you jealous?"
Joey dropped her mouth open. "I am not jealous!"
"Yes you are! Why else would you be making such a big deal about this?"
"Ok, ok. Calm down. I'm sorry. I just don't want you to forget me and get some boyfriend." She looked down at her feet.
Jessica stared at her friend. "Why would I do that? You are my best friend and I can't forget you if I even tried. Plus, I can't tell
Luke the things I tell you!"
Joey smiled a little. "Yeah, you can't. And you won't."
Jessica giggled. "I'll be sure NOT to tell Zac that you have a crush on him."
Joey about fainted. "What? I don't have a crush on him!"
Jessica pushed off from the railing. "Yes you do!" She yelled back.
"You are gonna get it girl!"
The two girls skated and laughed for the remainder of their time at the rink.

Phoebe walked into a music store, waiting for her mother to finish her shopping. She had some cash and wanted a new cd.
Reaching for a single, someone bumped into her causing her to spill the rack.
"Oh, I am so sorry about that!"
She turned around to see who bumped into her. "Hey, that's ok." She said bending down to pick up the cd's.
"Really, I am sorry. Here I'll help you." She bent down beside Phoebe.
"So, what's your name?"
"I'm Phoebe. What's yours?"
"I'm Veronica."
Phoebe started laughing.
"What's so funny?" Veronica asked.
Phoebe got up and quickly put the cd's back on the rack. "Nothing. Thanks for helping!" She walked off and over to the other
side of the store.
She had heard the story of the girl named "Veronica" that kept bumping into people. She guessed that was the same girl. Plus,
she fit the description Taylor gave her. She shook her head. A sales associate walked over to help her.
"Hi, I'm Doug. Do you need any help?"
She smiled a little. "Uh, no. I'm just looking."
"Well, ok then." He frowned and walked off.
"Strange..." She muttered.
She noticed the "Middle Of Nowhere" cd. Smiling, she picked it up and stared at Taylor's face. Right beside it was the "Weird"
single. She picked it up and decided to buy it. She had yet to find it in a store. Either they were sold out or they didn't carry it.
But who would have guessed you could get it in Tulsa? She paid for it and left the store happy. She sat down on a bench and
noticed Veronica again. She was talking to a girl about her age. Phoebe was close enough that she could hear the conversation.

"Wow, those are so cool! Are you going somewhere tonight?" Veronica asked her friend.
"Yep, I have a date. I am so excited too! This guy is super!"
Veronica smiled. "Maddy, you are so lucky! I wish I could get a decent date."
Maddy smiled and tossed her long hair over her shoulder. "Well, I'm sure I'll have a good time tonight."
"Oh, what time is it?" She asked Veronica.
"Um, almost 2:15."
Maddy picked up her bags. "I gotta go. I have to pick up Joey. I'll call you, ok?"
"Ok, cool. See ya!"
Phoebe shook her head and got up to find her mother.
