CHAPTER NINE - KNOWING

Maddy stood in her room and stared at herself in the mirror. She was wearing a cute teal-blue baby-t and the new pair of flares
that she had just bought. She needed a new pair, and it just ended up that she had them for her date with Isaac. She smiled and
sat down on her bed to put on her sandals.
"Maddy can I come in?" Joey asked through the closed door.
"Yeah, sure."
She opened the door slowly. "Ok, cool. I wanted to see what you were wearing for your date."
She laughed a little. "Thanks. Well, do I look ok?" She asked, standing up.
Joey nodded her head. "Yes! You look cute. I like the shirt."
She went over to her dresser to put on her choker. "I don't look all dressed up do I?"
Joey started looking through her earings. "No way. You look perfect. Here. Wear these." She handed her a pair of earings that
looked like little moons.
She took them and put them on. Joey leaned against the dresser and sighed. "What is it Joey?"
She shrugged a little. "You're just lucky that you can date. I have to wait five years."
She smiled. "Joey, I haven't been out in a long time. It's not like I date everyday. Besides, if you don't go out with the right kind
of guy, then your date can be ruined." She put on some lipstick.
"You are so pretty. Do you think I'm pretty?" She asked.
"Of course you are! You are very pretty Joey." She took her lipstick and walked with Joey over to her bed. "Let's put some of
this on you."
Joey smiled and she applied the lipstick and even gave her some lip gloss. Then she brushed her hair and smoothed it down.
"Ok, you can look."
She went over to the mirror and giggled. "My lips look neat."
Maddy went back over to her dresser and put on some perfume. "When I get back, we'll do makeovers, ok?"
She nodded her head and grinned.
"Ok then. Isaac should be here soon, so I'm going to wait downstairs. I'll see you when I get home." She hugged her and then
left the room.
Joey went over to her sister's dresser and looked at all the different types of makeup. She was really excited about getting to
use some of it. She took one last glance before going back to her room.

The Hanson family had finished dinner and Isaac went to the bathroom to check up on his hair. Taylor sat in his room at the
computer. He was playing a game on it. It was 7:45 now. "Ike, you better leave man. You don't want to be late."
He opened up the bathroom door. "Yeah ok. I'm done now."
He paused the game. "So you and Maddy are just going on a walk?" He asked.
Isaac stuck his wallet in his pants. "Yeah. Well, it was her idea. The next time we go out, I will take her some place really nice."
Taylor rolled his eyes. "You already assume that she will want to go out with you again?"
He shot Taylor a look. "Yeah... why not? There's nothing wrong with me. Jeez Taylor..."
Taylor laughed. "Ok, ok. I'm sorry about that. Have a fun time... be back before your curfew."
He laughed. "What curfew? This is rock and roll baby!"
Taylor shook his head. "See ya man."
Isaac waved and went downstairs. "This is rock and roll." Taylor chuckled at his joke. He sure was funny sometimes.

"Mom, I'm going to wait on the porch, ok?" Maddy told her mother.
"Sure honey that's fine. Remember, I want you home by midnight."
She grabbed her purse. "We're only going for a walk."
Mrs. Foster smiled. "I know. Just be back on time..."
"Ok, I will. Bye!" She gave her mom a smile and went out on the porch to wait for Isaac.

Isaac pulled up at her house. She was sitting on the porch. He turned off the car and got out to meet her. She started walking
over to him.
"Hey Maddy. Wow, you look great!" He complimented.
She blushed. "Thanks. So do you."
She looked at the car. "I guess you're just parking it here."
He looked confused for a second, then he realized what she was referring to. "Oh yeah. I didn't want to walk over here. I need
to save my energy."
She laughed. "Well that's a good thing."
He looked around her street. "You know, you're not to far from the icecream shop. How about we walk over there?"
"Sure! That sounds great." She agreed, feeling excited.
"Ok then. Sounds like a plan." He extended his hand and she placed hers in his.
"Let's go this way." He walked with her down the driveway and they started off towards the icecream shop.

"Do you find it odd that I act so normal around you?" She asked.
They had been walking for about ten minutes. They were almost there. "No way. It's nice to have this. Sometimes you just like
having a normal life, if you know what I mean."
She brushed her hair out of her eyes. "Yes, I think I do. I've always been a fan of you and your brother's music, so I have seen
some t.v. shows that you were on."
He smiled at that. "Oh yeah? That's interesting. I didn't really know if you were a fan or not."
She laughed a little. "Well, I don't really go around acting all crazy about it. I just think you guys have alot of talent... and
wonderful voices."
He blushed at that. "Thanks. We are always trying to get other people to just give our music a chance. There's always someone
out there who dislikes you for your age, looks, whatever, except what really matters. The music."
She nodded her head in agreement. "I have always liked your music. Ever since you released 'Boomerang' and 'MMMBop'. I
have those cd's."
Isaac looked at her with the biggest smile on his face. "Wow, you have those?"
Maddy laughed. "Yep. I still listen to them too."
He couldn't believe his own ears. "Well you have just made my day, that's for sure!" He exclaimed. He put his arm around her
waist.
She smiled at him. "I'm glad I did. Oh, we're almost there."
He looked ahead and saw the icecream shop come into view. "I'll race you!" He said running a little in front of her.
"I can't run! I have sandals on." She caught up with him.
"Oh, well ok. I was just really hoping that we could race..."
She playfully pushed him. "Yeah right. I do not like to run."
He laughed at that. "You look in shape though."
She grabbed his hand. "Well, yeah I guess. I do other stuff besides running. Eww, I hate to even think about it."
He smiled. "Bad expierience at the track huh?"
She giggled. "Whatever!"
He stepped onto the sidewalk. "Well, we made it."
Maddy fixed her shirt. "Let's go inside. I am craving icecream now."
Isaac grinned and opened the door for her.

"You already called her mom??!!" Phoebe exclaimed to her mother.
Georgia laughed. "Yes! I will be sending her an airline ticket this weekend."
She ran over and hugged her mother. "You are the best. Ahh, I'm so excited!! I'm going to call Taylor."
She broke away from their embrace and took off for the stairs. She ran into her room and plopped down on the bed. She
qucikly dialed his number.
"Hi Phoebe." He answered a few seconds later.
"Huh? How did you know it was me?" She asked amused.
He laughed. "Well, for starters, your window is open and your curtains are pulled, so I can see you. Plus, you always get
excited when you call me."
She grinned and walked over to her window. She waved.
"Ok, so you saw me. I have to tell you this now!! I am so excited."
He paused his computer game. "Ok, what's the good news?"
She took a deep breath. "My mom is sending Judy a ticket this weekend!! I might be able to see her soon!"
He got out of his chair. "No way! That soon?"
She nodded her head even though he couldn't see her. "Yes! I can't wait!"
He smiled. "I am so happy for you! I know you miss her alot."
She went over to her desk and picked up Judy's picture. "Yes, I sure do." She sighed a little. "But, at least I get to see her
again." She went back over to her bed and sat down.
Taylor went over to his window and looked at her. She had her back to him. "You have a cute back."
She turned around and saw him looking at her. She giggled. "Gee, thanks. You have cute hair."
He shook his head. She looked at her watch. It was 8:45pm. "Hey, I wonder what Maddy and Ike are doing now?"
"I don't know... they went on a walk." Right as those words left Taylor's mouth, a crazy idea came to him.
"Yeah, I hope they are having a great time. She looks like a nice person." She commented.
He wasn't talking... he was thinking. He looked at the sky. Not very dark. Not very late.
"Hey Phoebe?"
"Hey Taylor?"
He smiled. "Do you want to go on a walk?" He asked her in a sweet voice.
She laughed. "Ok sure... but I think this is some crazy way to spy on Ike."
Taylor slipped his shoes on. "Maybe... maybe not. Let's just go see if we can spot him. It'll be fun!"
She shook her head. "See, I told you. But, I'll still come with you."
"Yes! Ok cool. Go make sure it's ok with your mom first." He said.
"Ok."
He saw her leave the room. He waited for a few mintues and then he saw her again.
"My mom said ok. But, I have to be back home by eleven."
He walked over to the window. "Ok great. Meet me outside in two minutes."
She nodded and hung up the phone. He did the same.

"Mom, I'm going on a walk with Phoebe. I'll be home by eleven ok?"
Diana looked up from the book she was reading to Mackie. Zac was also interested now. "Why do you have to go out so
late?" She asked.
He shrugged. "Well, it's a nice night and we just wanted to walk around the block and like hang out. It's safe."
She looked back down at the book. "Alright Taylor. You be careful. I will expect to see you back in this living room on or
before eleven."
He smiled and agreed. Zac looked back at his video game. "Bye mom."
She waved. He opened up the front door and went outside to meet her.

Maddy took another bite of her banana split. "I love this icecream."
Isaac put down his spoon. "Well, I am full. I don't believe I ever ate an icecream that fast."
She giggled at him. "I still can't believe that your brother's girlfriend got in a fight here. That's the funniest story though!"
He smiled. "Yeah, it was pretty funny. I had to piggy back ride her halfway home because she hurt her back."
She wiped her mouth off. "Oh, that's awful. Is she ok now?"
He nodded. "Yes, she's fine. It was just a minor thing."
She sat back in her chair.
"So, are you enjoying our date so far?" He asked her.
"Yes! This is so fun. You are a very friendly guy. I haven't had a date as nice as you are."
He blushed a little. "Well, me too. I'm really happy that I asked you out." He reached across the table and took her hand.
She leaned in closer to him. "You know, I don't think I've told you how beautiful you are." Isaac put on the charm, but he
meant every word of it.
She felt her face flush. "You are one with the words. Thank you for the compliment." She never had anyone talk to her like that,
so she really didn't know how to respond.
He reached up and brushed her hair out of her eyes. Her heart was beating a little faster. She closed her eyes and her kissed
her. It was a simple kiss... nothing too serious. After all, this was a first date. They broke away from their kiss and stared at
each other. He was blushing more that night that he had ever in his whole life. She smiled at him. "Wow, you kiss pretty good!"
She broke the silence and they both laughed.
"Yeah you do too!" He said back to her.
"Well, what should we do now?" She asked.
"How about we continue our walk? It's a great night."
She smiled and agreed with him. Isaac motioned for the waitress to come over. Maddy went over to the gumball machine and
got two pieces while he paid the bill.
"Here you go. I got you some gum." She said, when he finally walked over to her.
"Oh no. I have braces. I can't chew that."
She looked at it. "Oh darn... well, I guess I'll chew it." She popped the green gumball into her mouth.
He took her hand and they exited the icecream shop.

Taylor and Phoebe turned the corner and started down West 77th Street. She ran ahead of him a little and turned around.
"So, Taylor the spy, isn't this a great night?" She cracked a smile at him.
"Yeah a great night..." He gave her the evil eye and then laughed.
She rolled her eyes and giggled. "Ok, so where are we going?" She whispered.
"I don't know. Why are we whispering?"
She shrugged. He shook his head. "You are crazy girl!" He put his arms around her waist.
She sighed to herself. He was such a sweetie to her.
"Oh look. One more street over and we are on... her street."
She cringed at the thought of Macy and her bratty friend Tisha.
"What's wrong with those girls? Do they just like being mean?" He questioned.
"I guess so." She had an idea. She stopped walking.
"I have an idea Tay..."
He waited for her to finished her thought. She waited for him to ask her what it was. "Well... aren't you going to tell me?"
She smiled. "Yeah... ok. Let's try to spy on her!! Then we can go searching for Ike."
He crossed his arms and thought about it for a minute. "Alright... let's just be careful. If she sees us, she could freak out or
something."
She nodded and quickly walked down the sidewalk with Taylor right behind her. They stopped when they were in front of her
driveway.
"Look, that window is open. Maybe it's her bedroom." Phoebe pointed out with hope.
"Maybe..., well a one story has but so many rooms. I bet it is." He observed.
She started walking up the driveway.
"Phoebe! Where are you going?" He whispered when she left him.
She turned around. "I'm going to see if that's her room. Come on!"
He hesitated, but joined her a few seconds later. She ran over to the window they thought was Macy's. She got on her tiptoes
and peered in. Taylor waited patiently for her to report if there was any action going on. He tugged on her shirt.
"Phoebe, do you see anything?"
She nodded, but held her finger to her lips to silence him. He clasped his hands together and waited. Finally, she turned back to
him.
"Ok, well it looks as if Tisha is spending the night... and I didn't really see anything except them talking. They just left the room.
Oh, but you'll never believe this Tay."
His eyes grew wide with anticipation. "What?!"
She took a deep breath and leaned in closer to him. "They are fans."
He jumped back shocked. He held his hand to his mouth. "No way!" He hissed glancing up at her window.
She nodded. "Oh yes. And big fans they are. I counted at least one-hundred posters... and the weird thing is, is that most of
them are of Zac."
He looked disgusted. "That sick girl is obsessed with my little brother! Oh I won't have it!" He demanded.
She kinda smiled. "Oh well. There's nothing we can really do about it."
He pushed his hair off his face. "Let's get out of here. I feel gross."
She put her arm around him and they ran back to the sidewalk. "How in the world can they be fans?" He questioned her.
She shrugged. "They are just crazy and that's all there is to it. I bet they even have multiple personalities."
He smiled a little at that comment. "Yeah maybe. But, still... it's weird ya know?"
She nodded. "Yeah... really weird. So weird, that 'weird' doesn't even sum it up. There's not a word for how weird they are."
Taylor laughed. "I don't think I have ever used that word that many times in one sentence before. You have just set a record my
lady."
She smiled. "Well, thank you. But, you used that word more in a song if I'm not mistaken."
He blushed. He never really talked much about their music to her, so he was surprised when she would bring it up from time to
time. "Yep, you've got me there."
They were now back on their street. "So, where do we go now?" She asked.
He looked around. "Let's just go to the park. Maybe they are there."
She thought for a moment, then decided that that was ok with her.
"Sure! Sounds like a plan." He took her hand, and they started off on their mission to find Isaac.

"Ouch!" Phoebe exclaimed when she tripped on a rock. Taylor ran over to her.
"Are you ok?" He asked, helping her off the ground.
"Yeah... I just stubbed my toe though. It's so dark out here!"
They stood in the middle of the park looking around for Isaac and Maddy. No luck yet. "Yeah really. Tulsa doesn't believe in
lighting up the park I guess."
She pointed to a sign when he said that. "Taylor, the park closes at dusk. If they lit up this place, It'd be like daytime."
He opened his mouth to speak, but stopped when he saw two people walk over to a bench and sit down. Phoebe noticed
them too. How could you not? They were the only four people at the park. He laughed a little. "It's Ike. Man I can predict
everything he does."
She looked at them. Happy. Smiling. Being together. Suddenly, she felt guilty for being out there... spying on them. She lighty
touched his arm to get his attention.
"Taylor, I wan't to go."
He looked surprised that she wanted to leave. "Huh? Why?"
She sighed a little. "I don't feel right spying on them. It's just not right Tay."
Taylor looked back at them and then to Phoebe. "I guess your right. Hopefully they haven't seen us by now."
She smiled and was very happy that he agreed to leave the park with her. "Come on. Let's go." She took Taylor's hand and
quickly started out of the park. She let go and ran ahead of him a few moments later.
"I'll race you out of here..." She took off.
Taylor excepted the challenge and picked up his speed as well. Phoebe turned to see if he was chasing her.
"Phoebe! Look out!!" He exclaimed. "Huh?" She turned back around, too late, and fell right into the fountain. He about fainted
when he saw this. Not only did Phoebe cause a splash, but the scream didn't help at all. If Isaac and Maddy hadn't noticed
them before, they surely would now.

"Did you hear that?" Maddy stood up and looked around.
"Yeah, I did. I heard water..." Isaac said getting up as well.
"Come on, let's see who it is."
They started making their way over to the fountain.
Phoebe sat up and about cried. "Taylor! Look at me! My mom is gonna kill me!" She was so soaking wet, that it wasn't even
funny.
Taylor reached to help her out when someone tapped him on the shoulder. He spun around and came face to face with Isaac.
"Uh, Ike... hi."\
Maddy looked at Phoebe. She felt sorry for the girl.
"Taylor! Are you spying on us?"
Phoebe gulped. Taylor looked at her for help. "No..."
Isaac rolled his eyes. "Yeah, you and Phoebe were just taking a swim in the park tonight, right?"
Maddy walked over and helped Phoebe out of the fountain.
"Are you ok?" Maddy asked her.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm so sorry about messing up your date."
She shook her head. "No, it's ok."
"Ike, ok, we were spying on you. There. Are you happy now?" Taylor took Phoebe's hand and started to walk away.
Phoebe looked back at Isaac. Maddy looked at Isaac. Isaac looked at Taylor. "Tay, wait. Come back here."
He stopped and walked back over to him. "You two look so pathetic... but that's not the point. I'm sorry for yelling at you.
Let's just all walk back to the house together ok?"
Taylor nodded his head. Maddy liked this idea as well. Isaac took Maddy's hand and walked ahead of them. Phoebe twisted
her shirt. It was so wet. Taylor couldn't help but notice how uncomfortable she was just then.
"Phoebe, is something bugging you?" He asked.
She shook her head and tugged at her shirt, trying to bag it a little. "Ok...but I don't believe you."
She smiled a bit. "I just don't like being soaking wet Tay."
He grinned. "You look cute soaking wet though."
She shoved him. "Taylor! Your brother can probably hear you."
He dropped his mouth open. "I didn't say anything that he couldn't hear!"
Isaac stopped walking and turned around to say something.
"You two need to go home. I'm going to walk Maddy back to her house. I left the car there."
Phoebe nodded, still looking a little weird. "Sure Ike. I'll see you when you get home. Nice to have met you Maddy." Taylor
gave her a nod.
"Yeah same here. Bye Ike... Maddy." She gave a smile and walked around them with Taylor.
Isaac and Maddy turned and began walking towards her street. Taylor took a deep breath.
"I know I'm going to hear about this all night."
She gave him a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry I got us caught... I never meant for that to happen." She shook all of a sudden.
He figured she was cold. "Come, on. Let's get you home before you freeze." He put his arm around her to hopefully create
some warmth.
"Ok, but I want to stop by your house first... I don't want to go home soaking wet." She said smiling a little.
"Sure, no problem."

Diana looked up when she saw Taylor enter the living room. She looked a little puzzled.
"I never expected you to come home... forty minutes early. You could have stayed out longer."
He shrugged. "Well, we decided to hang out here for a little while... we got tired of walking."
Diana smiled and looked for Phoebe. "Where is she?"
She was standing in the foyer, waiting for Taylor to finish talking. "Oh... she's right here."
He motioned for her to come over to him. She didn't want to, only because she was soaking wet. She hesitated for a moment
but then walked over to him.
"Hi Mrs. Hanson." She said trying to look as if nothing was wrong with her.
"Hello Phoebe. It's nice to see you again."
She nodded. "Well mom, we'll be upstairs." Taylor quickly hurried her up the stairs and into their room.
When he closed the door, she felt relieved.
"Taylor, your mom didn't notice that I was wet?"
He shook his head. "No, she noticed. She just didn't care to say anything." He walked over to his closet and started looking for
some clothes.
"Oh. Well, that's cool I guess." She looked at Taylor.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm looking for some clothes for you." He turned and walked over to her.
"Here. Go put these on and I'll go put your clothes in the dryer." He handed her some black sweatpants and a black t-shirt that
was very large.
"Thanks. I'll be right back." She went into their bathroom and closed the door.
There was a knock at the door.
"Who is it?" He asked.
"It's me. Duh."
Taylor sighed and opened the door up. Zac walked in, his eyes searching the room... obviously for Phoebe.
"What do you want?" He asked.
"Huh? I don't have to want anything Tay. This is my room to ya know." He plopped down on his bed and grabbed a magazine.
Taylor couldn't argue with that. If he forced him out, it would someday come back to him.
"So... where's Phoebe?" He asked not looking up from the magazine.
"She's in the bathroom." Taylor replied.
Phoebe opened the door up and stepped outside with her wet shirt and shorts in her hands. Zac looked confused. "Why are
you wearing his clothes?"
"I fell into the fountain at the park and I needed to change."
Zac laughed. "How did you fall into that?"
Taylor spoke up. "It's a long story Zac... all though I'm sure you'll hear about it later. Mark my words."
Phoebe looked at herself in the mirror. The t-shirt fell almost to her knees, but the sweatpants actually fit.
"Taylor, are these your pants?" She asked trying not to laugh.
"Yeah."
Phoebe fixed her hair a little. "We must wear the same size or something. They fit."
He looked at the pants and blushed. He knew he wasn't the biggest of guys, but he was pretty tall. That made him look more
thin at times. Phoebe grinned at him and then went over to see Zac. "I'll be right back."
Taylor picked up her clothes and left the room.
"So Zac, what are you looking at?" She asked with some curiosity.
He pulled out a piece of paper that he had hidden in between the magazine. He handed it over to her in silence. She took one
look at his serious expression and knew that this was something important... to him at least. Phoebe read it twice and then
looked at him.
"Are you serious Zac? Is this really worth all the trouble to you, Taylor and myself?"
He nodded his head and grinned mischievously at her. She smiled, ruffled Zac's hair and slipped the paper back into it's original
place.
