Despite the fact that this, the oldest rivalry in international hockey, is the most lop-sided, it is also one of the fiercest. History, proximity, attention and accolades going north, NHL teams going south all have contributed to the heat in the battle of North America. But none of the afforementioned reasons are as relevent as the fact they they are simply two great hockey systems who always play each other tough.
In the "old days" the United States hardly ever showed up on Canada's hockey radar screen, but beginning in 1991 the two countries met 3 times in the finals of 4 top level competitions.
