A Net Friendship
(To Tara)
Amidst the flicker and glare
Of phosphorescent screens,
We are two strangers
Meeting across the miles.
Never to see, hold or touch,
We've still managed closeness
In a world where mere words
Can mean, oh so much.
I seek you out this night
In this playground of the mind
Odd, how with so little contact
You allay my fears, put my heart to flight.
I stand before you naked and revealed
And only ask that you do the same
No Brass Band is needed in this field
Lack of admiration for you I cannot feign.
Judge me not too harshly my dear
I am but a man, with many a fear
They say that hope springs eternal
But I know, I shall never have you near.
Touch my mind gently tonight,
As we say our goodbyes again and again
How I wish I had you within sight
But we part again with the breaking of light.
