![]() Michelle Tumes' new album Dream breaks from her usual style, which I feel is best described simply as soothing. With the exception of the track "God Of My Hope", the songs are mostly very contemporary sounding, with a modern hip hop rock feel. Honestly, I was not only surprised but also a bit disapointed when I first heard her new album. In her previous album Center Of My Universe, she chose a contemporary style for just one of her songs, "Do Ya". She said that she wanted to show that she was not limited to only one style, but I personally feel that "copying" modern music took away a bit of what made her a unique musician. She was declared ASCAP 2001 Christian Songwriter of the year, which I feel she rightly deserves. I simply feel that what made her music so appealing was its unique healing sound that most modern music lacks. It did take some getting used to, but I was able to come to enjoy her new cd as I do the other cds that I own, but it will still never compare to her album Listen, which I still hold as my favorite. The most unique quality about that album is its lifespan. When I play the cd, anyone who hears it automaticly wants to buy their own copy to own and listen to over and over again. While Felipe, a foriegn exchange student was stying with us, he played the song "Healing Waters" continuously at least 5 times before he went onto the next! Music
