MEMORY DANCE

American Indians have always regarded music and dance with a special reverence. Dance not only fulfills a social purpose, but is also seen as a way to communicate with the forces of nature and the spirits.
The traditional dances are passed down from generation to generation. Additionally, many of the traditional songs can be traced back as many as six hundred years.
In many families, a child will be introduced into the dance circle as soon as he or she can walk.
In the Memory Dance, the dancers pay homage to their ancestors who gave them the dance and the music.
