I am writing now at this time in hopes of religious freedom for us Pagans and Wiccans. As many of you know, this past Labor Day weekend there was suppossed to be an anti-Pagan march in Texas put on by some Christians who don't think that we have a right to practice. Truth is, we have as much of a right to practice our religion as they do theirs!
I write to all of you Wiccans and Pagans (even those interested) telling you about our Silver Ribbon Project. After learning about this march, a small group of Pagan friends and I decided we are taking too much of a submissive role concerning the treatment of largely misunderstood religions. We decided that we need to take a firm standing against this sort of treatment. No longer should we need to scurry back to our 'broom closets' because of simple misunderstandings and not so simple discrimination. Even if we educate a person or a small group.... it will have a domino effect! So, this is a call to arms, if you will, to all those who support our given right to freedom of religion. No one person or group has any right of taking that away from us. We have decided on a three day campaign, starting on October 29 and ending on October 31 (our beloved Samhain, a day of letting go of the old and welcoming the new with open arms) to open a new era of acceptance and tolerance. On these days we ask that you show support by wearing a silver crescent moon with a silver ribbon looped behind it. For more information, either contact me, or my dear Pagan friend Dierdre.

Many people do not know what Wicca is. When I say it is Witchcraft, people get scared and get images of me burning animals and drinking blood. Truth is, I don't do any of those things! Wicca is a modern, New Age religion that has been around since the 1950's. It is a modern version of Witchcraft, a loving, healing religion working with nature and the great forces of the Universe to bring unity to oneself and the people and things around them. We do cast spells..... but not on anyone else. We believe in the Law of Threefold. 'Every thing you say or do, good or bad, comes back to you with energy three times as strong as it was sent out'. This also has a bit to do with karma. Wiccans believe in a Mother Goddess (the Crone) and the Father God (the Great Horned One) and many other dieties if they so choose. There are different paths of the craft (for example, I am a solitary faery kitchen witch) which shall be explained later.
I have been reading books on the Craft, astrology, ESP, tarrot, runes, and other New Age subjects since I was about seven. I was raised a Roman Catholic but didn't like the way the religion made me feel guilty, as if I would be damned to Hell forever for commiting various sins. I didn't really even believe in Hell. I thought Catholocism used way too much of a guilt factor, and since I have enough problems feeling guilty as it is, I just did not need this. I needed a religion that would let me be me, and not have to worry about guilt. I began to philosophise and eventually made up my own way of thinking, and also studied different religions. When I read Scott Cunningham's "The Truth About Witchcraft Today" it was almost magick! All of the things I thought were right for me were in that book, so I decided to adopt Wicca as my religion.
Now I happier than I have ever been, and I truly thing that the love of both the Goddess and God has brought me to who I am. I wake up each morning and spend a little time outdoors thanking them for the wonderful day, the air I breathe, and all of the beautiful things surrounding me. I go to bed each night with a prayer saying 'thanks'. I love Wicca and everything about it.
