The man we know most commonly as "Bono" was born Paul Hewson. The teenaged Paul Hewson's friend's came up with the idea to nic name him "Bono Vox"(of O'Connell Street.) (Latin for "Good Voice") After a Dublin Hearing Aid store. At first Bono Vox didn't like his new nic name, but after awhile he grew used to it. He shortened it first to Bono Vox, and then for short Bono. Then Came the Alter egos.
The Fly
The Fly was a creep,... a guy who was like a cheating snake oil salesman from the old west. Bono I believe is making fun of rock stardom here,... how fickle some stars are.... The Fly wears dark sunglasses and dark clothes.
MacPhisto
MacPhisto was the Fly after he got old . Bono thought it would be easier for Eurpean Audiences to figure out then the Fly.
The MirrorballMan
I don't know much about who this cool dressed dude is supposed to be.
But he always wears silver. :-)
Bonoman
(A Pop era Bono, edge and Larry. (hiding.) )
Bonoman was around during the "POPMART" tour. He was supposed to be a light, comic book style guy. He wears muscleman prints.
Will Paul Hewson take on yet more alter egos? Let's hope so. :-) I'll keep this updated.
The Edge
The man we know as the Edge was born Dave Evans. he wasn't as picky about names as Bono was. Edge was so named for his "Watchful Eye", His sharp mind , and the shape of his chin. (Thanks to Bono.)
The Electric Cowboy
This is the only alter ego of Edge's I know of. He was around during "POPMART". he was supposed to be yet another comic style guy. He wears white alot.
Larry Also known as "Hitman" on the Popmart Tour.
Adam has occasionaly gone by Sparky, no one seems to know why. (By The Way----- I named my dog before I knew about that,... and they have to same name ,Sparky! I laughed for days!) :-)Also Known as "POPTART" On the Popmart Tour.
