The NetForum is home: tolerance 1st

Hello. It's me. I will not even bother to find out what all the fighting is about, but it needs to stop. There are several cardinal rules longtime Xenites, and longtime NetForum participants have learned to live by. We all need a little reminding now and then, so here goes:

1. Tolerance is key. We are different ages, genders, gender preferences, nationalities... you name it. We must learn not to slam the reply button every time somebody says something mildly annoying. Trolls MUST be ignored, and anyone else who says something intolerant should be treated the same way. Don't reply, and they'll go away from boredom if nothing else. BTW...you'll notice I didn't say to ignore the post if you disagree with it. Ignore the post if it's intolerant, even if it happens to resonate with you. Those emotions are your own, but they have NO place here.

2.Keep it reasonably clean. I would stifle nobody's creativity, and I deeply believe that exposure to the larger world (and acceptance of all kinds of people) is important to young and old alike. But remember there are grade school kids reading here. Graphic, or even fairly graphic fiction (alt OR otherwise) should be sent to websites aimed exclusively at adults. That's not prudishness, or censorship... it's just good sense. One of my favorite authors here tends to write her stories twice: once for the NetForum, and spicier for the website she posts on. That's a good plan.

3.This is your home. A home is a place where people feel comfortable... where people are accepted as they are, warts and all... where caring rises above the petty, and makes us strong. Remember that, the next time you have the urge to say something hurtful. It's not what this place deserves.

Okay. I'll get down from my pulpit now. I just think we all need to back up a little and realize what we're screwing up when we get involved in flame wars, or go out of our way to hurt, annoy or shock someone. Leave that to the trolls...and then ignore THEM.
I've been a victim of impersonation. I've been flamed. It all goes away eventually, if you keep your head.
