BETRAYED

Betrayed

Battle weary,
Scarred by word and deed,
In need of succor,
Finding pain instead,
Fed lies disguised
By honeyed words and phrases,
By loving looks and praises,
I am entrapped
By snares of feigned affection,
Like hidden hooks
Within sweet dough.

Although betrayal
Masquerades as love,
And judgements hide
Within apologetic speech,
Accusations burn their way
Through obfuscating clouds
And proclaim themselves aloud,
For shame,
And aim long-sharpened barbs,
Unsheathed at last,
To pierce my armor
And destroy
The soft core of my heart.
