What is it about this show?

Don't get me wrong. I am a fan of the show, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is that keeps me watching. I mean, the plots themselves are somewhat flimsy and the historical references are tenuous at best. What is it? The talents of the actors? The camp humour? I see Xena adulation over the world. It has gripped the imagination of millions and to be fair, every person will get what they want out of it be it a strong role model for women, the affirmation of friendship between women etc. But I cannot put my hand on my heart and say that this is the absolute epitome of television. Does someone want to share their thoughts with me on this. DOn't get me wrong. I am in now way underestimating the power of the programe or indeed the reverence the fans hold for the duo, hence I have to be careful how I phrase my question. Anyone want to chat with me?
