Hello All,

The following trilogy of poems were written to represent the POVs of Xena
(written by RedPrincess), Gabrielle (written by Raye Dene) and Callisto
(written by Welcon) based upon the recent episode "Maternal Instincts". It
was our attempt to reflect in poetry and prose the characters, their
feelings and the thoughts expressed within this story.
Enjoy. (or so we hope :)

BETRAYED - XENA

My heart’s afire
Look what you’ve done
Your burning desire
Has cost me my son

Your demon spawn
Whom you did not kill
Made you her pawn
And you did her will

My only child
Dead in my arms
Your daughter, vile
He did her no harm

All of these years
He never knew me
So many tears
For a life that can’t be

I trusted you
But you betrayed
My faith once true
Now torn and frayed

I cannot condone
What your love has wrought
Leave me alone
Your solace not sought

It’s all on your head
You’ve been untrue
My son is dead
Because of you

You say you love me
My love has turned cold
No longer can there be
Our closeness of old

BETRAYED - GABRIELLE

The tears that I shed are so warm. How strange since my heart feels so cold. When I saw you and Solon, Ephiny and Xenon, I battled back the envy that had me longing for my daughter. Hope, I never thought to see her again. But she found me and oh gods how much joy flooded my heart! It was like the first time I
saw her, and I so wanted to believe that it would be okay. She needed me to protect her from the evil of Callisto, and the wrath of my best friend. That lie was a bitter pill, yet still I thought I was right in keeping from Xena that she lived. Now I know the folly of loving blindly. And pay the price still.
Trying desperately to believe my Hope was innocent, til you spoke Solon's name. I knew then what I must do. So with ice already forming in my heart I watched you drink the poison and your life drain away. I nearly followed you in death, but was clinging to the dream that I might find forgiveness for what I had done.
Even that dream was smashed as the one that was my anchor and my soul mate lashed out in rage and pain and the full weight of guilt fell on my shoulders. Desperately I flung out "I love you Xena" and found despair in silence. I walked away feeling the warmth of my tears even as my soul froze with grief and anguish.
And wondering how long the body can live if the soul is dying.

BETRAYAL - CALLISTO

Exquisite release of the evil within
the flames of my hatred sustained
lustful revenge of reality sweetened
death's innocent promised by name

hunting the softest place in your heart
seeking the best of all this obsession
solace redemption in emptiness gained
as treachery brings me the quest

darkness answers all of my dreams
so child like this game as it's played
as gentle your screams come floating
sweet chilling the sound of your pain

quenching the flames of my passion
as redemption slips through my fate
bitter emptiness all that's left of me
to the end I had nothing to gain

betrayal by the ones in your love
that remorse of one day may placate
but the grim realization held for me
sad betrayal by my own bitter hate

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have read
our efforts to put into words the different and unique POV of these
characters about the episode MI. And to thank the cast and writers of
Xena for giving us such rich characters and stories to watch and
