The Bitter Script..we're not fools!

Conserning Maternal Instincts and The Bitter Suite.
Don't read if you haven't seen the episodes.....

Even though Xena comes around in the end and asks for forgiveness from
Gabrielle, Xena's image is forever tarnished by her hypocrisy and evil. Gabrielle did
nothing directly to kill Solan. Instead she was trying to save her baby girl. Yet, Xena
holds Gabrielle as the killer of her boy. Xena is so enraged that she is willing to fight the
amazons and kill Gabrielle. But during this whole time, Gabrielle seems less disturbed
than Xena. Xena gave her baby away and only came back to visit a couple of times,
never letting him know that she was his mother and that his parents weren't dead. She
doesn't seem like a very concerned mother to me. Because of Xena, Gabrielle was in the
place so that she had the child Hope. Gabrielle had this baby, and wanted to love and
stay with her, only abandoning her to save Hope's life. Later, Gabrielle has to kill Hope
who she loved...after much pressure from Xena. Killing the child that she loved must
have been the most horrible thing in the world...But Gabrielle seemed less upset about
the events than Xena did. This is very disturbing to me. Gabrielle is always the
emotional one, and I feel that she would be in mourning for months if not years. It is
pathetic that Xena would be so selfish as to kill Gabrielle over the death of Solan who
she hardly ever saw....and she GAVE HIM AWAY as a baby!!! In every episode it is
always Xena that is the "know it all", always spouting out obvious information and
explaining what is going on to Gabrielle....or in the end saying that she had "thought so
all along." If she is so smart then why does she react so harshly against Gabrielle. She
was only trying to save her baby....the same thing that Xena was doing. At least
Gabrielle made more of an effort to be a mother...and Xena should know this. She
should not go after Gabrielle to kill her. I felt that the characters' personalities were
completely overlooked when writing these scripts. Gabrielle has more of a right to want
to kill Xena than the other way around. Gabrielle had the baby because of Xena, and
therefore Xena brought about the death of Hope and Solan as well as causing torment to
Gabrielle and herself. Then Xena tries to kill Gabrielle....makes no sense! But after all
of that....then they fall into the water and into a strange dreamlike world and they
sing...and Xena does "kill" Gabrielle! And she thought that she really did....but it turns
out that she didn't. So then she has the gull to argue with Gabrielle and not even listen to
her. And by the end...Xena finally asks for forgiveness from Gabrielle by singing a pretty
song. And Gabrielle buys it? Xena had turned into an evil b****, and killed her and
blamed her for the death of Solan and never admitted that it was in fact ALL her (xena's)
fault. Well, I guess it is a good thing that Xena can sing pretty songs...otherwise my bet
is that Gabrielle would despise her and never have anything to do with her. The
reasoning behind all of Xena's rage was pathetic...so was the fact that Gabrielle was her
target. And by the end everything seems OK, but Xena never said "I'm sorry Gabrielle, I
caused you to have Hope, and therefore to love her and protect her....And I'm sorry that
you had to kill your own baby and to be hurt so badly over it...and I'm sorry that while
you were in mourning I drug you across the land by a horse and hurt you, then tried to
throw you off a cliff...and I'm sorry that when we were in that weird place I did kill
you...and I'm sorry that after all that I just wanted to argue with you...and I'm sorry that
I'm standing here with my son (solan), holding him and letting him know that I am his
mother and I love him, right in front of you. I'm sorry that Hope can't be here so that you
can do the same thing with her..." But Gabrielle seems mostly content with the situation,
when the entire thing should have been different. Just the simple fact that Xena reverted
back to evil and would kill her best friend over the death of her self-neglected son is
absurd. The episode "the bitter suite" put on a dramatic show and it was easy to forget
every little detail while watching such a distracting and playful episode. But to wrap it
all up and make everything OK is horrible. Do the writers believe that people will
overlook the facts and the characters' real personalities and just buy into the "fact" that in
about 20 minutes (the end of the episode) that Xena and Gabrielle worked through all the
problems and next week everything is going to be OK? It is horrible that the writers can
create such a huge event in the lives of Xena and Gabrielle and try to end it in an hour....
If they are going to make Xena evil and Gabrielle hate her....they should follow it
through, otherwise they should have never made it happen in the first place. The musical
episode would have been one of the BEST episodes ever, except for the fact that it is a
flashy ending to an otherwise poorly told story. May be if it was two hours long and they
worked on more of Gabrielle's emotions and less on Xena's self centered character it
could have been pulled off enough to keep them together.

Thank the gods that Xena can sing a pretty song....or Gabrielle would never forgive her.

Sorry for the long winded lecture....
Xena will never be the same to me after reverting so quickly to
evil, betraying Gabrielle, and just being a horrible person for
horrible reasons...I can't be tricked by a flashy wonderful singing
show into loving her again...Her trust and goodness will now forever
be uncertain....
