Hi there cbcookie,
My name is bo and we havent had the chance to meet
on-line yet. I dont come around as much anymore as
I used to. But its nice to meet you.
As for your question my answer is "no. I can see nothing
wrong with your wanting to share something you enjoy with
your friends". This seems most normal and healthy to me.
Nor do I see anything wrong with your love of the show.
You know most people have something they really enjoy doing
which is a hobby or an interest of theirs. Thats the way I
view my love of Xena Warrior Princess (the show) and rapping
on-line in the Xenaverse. Why would that be any worse or
different from, oh say, a love of classic cars and going to
car shows, etc? I'm just using that as one example. Also there
has been a wonderful benefit in all this. I have met some super
nice people this way and I am proud to call them my friends now.
And best of all we share this common interest. I dont know
your friends and I have no desire to judge them but I will say
this: I cant understand why someone who truly cares about you
and is interested in you would laugh at you when you try to share
your interest with them.
Only I know that sometimes people can just be plain down thoughtless.
My friends and family and even some co-workers know how much I love
to watch this show. Most of them dont share my interest themselves but
they dont laugh at me when I share it. (Prolly cause they know what
goes around comes around....haha..) no just teasing....my "true"
friends not only dont laugh about it but they even give me articles, etc.
that they know I would be interested in. So in summation I dont
think your the one with a problem here. Sounds like your friends are.
Just MHO,
bomac
According to the stats post, over 10,000 people are registered on this forum. There are several other gathering places for fans on the internet that probably represent several thousand more. And this represents only those who get on line. If only a quarter of these people share your obsession, that's at least 4000-5000 people. I think you have plenty of company.
From time to time we all obsess about something, as many a sports widow can attest. You've found something that gives you pleasure and has brought you into a community that is, at times a bit odd, but always a lot of fun.
Don't worry, be happy.

That's why I love the Netforum...I don't feel afraid discussing Xena and
Xena-related topics...
I'll stop with the self-analysis now...it's making me depressed...and
someone is trying to see what I'm typing on the computer right now...
GO AWAY...don't worry, I won't start screaming BIRDS! BIRDS!...just...
yet...

I'M NOT AS SCREWED UP AS I SOUND...I MEAN TYPE...I HOPE...
Hey cookie-
There is nothing wrong with you, kiddo-- tv is an escapement device and 99%
of the world has a tv 'obsession' if you will. You like Xena. So what?
I bet that there is at LEAST one tv show that your so called friends
watch religiously. Seinfeld? X-Files? Touched By An Angel? Do you make
fun of them? I doubt it. Unfortunately, Xena has the distinction of being either
a 'gay' show or just being plain old cheesy. But, hey I love cheese. And
you know what? I bet your friends do, too.

I couldn't agree more with bomac
Everybody has something. Some of them are harmless, and others ar not so harmless, but from what I've seen everybody has something.
Take it from me, I used to be a volleyball player. I ate, drank and slept the sport for most of my life. And some consider that... cool.
But why is that considered better than being a Xena fan?
Have you ever been to a football game at a major college? Those people are way more into "their team" then we are into Xena, but it's considered okay because it's...cool? And believe me we don't have anything on most of those people.
I'm still a closet Xenite, only my close friends and family know. And they get on my when I choose staying home to watch the next episode and tape it without the commercials the way I like it, instead of going see them. But I figure, if it's not hurting anybody its okay.

Hey there, cbcookie,
It’s funny. Until recently I was one of those people who was so damn snobby about XENA, convinced the show was some cheesy syndicated drivel, popular in much the same way as BAYWATCH. I didn’t pay much attention. I knew Lucy Lawless by name but that was about it. Honestly, it’s called XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS. . .how good can it be?
Now that I am hooked, however, I’m surprised how many of my friends watch as well. I once compared trying to find XENA fans to being a Christian in the days of the Roman Empire; instead of drawing a fish in the dirt as a secret code, I usually mention ‘the New Zealand show’ and if folks watch, they know what I’m talkin’ about, if they don’t, the subject just moves on. . .
I find most of my friends who watch tend to be of a higher intellect than most and I say this in all seriousness. My ‘brainy’ compadres totally get into this show, all of us equally surprised at its quality. Most conversations usually start with “You know, it really *is* good!” But there are folks who don’t ‘get it’ and I don’t usually push it with them. Hey, *I* didn’t get it either for a long time so who am I to judge? What I usually say is, “you should watch it. It’s actually quite fun” and then move on. I don’t let these people get to me. I had people laugh at me for years when I was obsessed over THE X FILES. . .now they’re borrowing my tapes to get caught up.
As someone else said in response, XENA is a hobby in much the same way as watching the Chicago Bulls or playing poker or book-of-the-month clubs. To each their own. . .And if these folks laugh, f**k ‘em. That sounds cavalier, but you’ve gotta be your own person.
Also, as ParNone said, you have to have a sense of humor ‘bout it all. . .tis indeed key. . .
Ciao, kiddo!
