It's seems like quite a few people watch Xena, because it portrays
2 strong women in a close relationship, who can take care of
themselves without the help of men. I was wondering what other couple
in movies or TV do you think comes closest to resembling this portrayal.
My pick is Scarlett and Melanie in "Gone with the Wind".
They are not your stereotypical genteel southern belles. With the devastation of war as the catalyst, they both show great strength of character. They are throw into several situations, where they must rely on each other to survive, without the help of men. In fact, with the exception of maybe, Rhett, the men are portrayed as whiny and weak
through much of the movie. There is a love between the two that maybe even rivals Scarlett's love for Rhett. The most heart-breaking moment in the movie, to me, is when Scarlett realizes too late how important Melanie is to her and how much she loves Melanie. Scarlett may be able to find another Rhett, but her chances of finding another Melanie, who loves her so unconditionally, are very slim.
If I thought about it hard enough, I could probably even find some subtext, but I've already taxed my poor brain enough as it is... <g>

Sense of Humor--It's Critical
Hi ParNone,
I came on for a few minutes to see if the forum was back up and you caught me. One of my favourite ones is Rick and Famous, with Jacqueline Bissett and Candice Bergen, their friendship lasts just barely after all the men and betrayals almost tear them apart, it's almost too hard to watch at times.
Well there's my 1 cent,
Paks

They really knew how to make movies back then, didn't they??? I've all but given up discussin old movies with my friends, cause they don't know what I'm talkin about half the time.

It took me 2 days to come up with my Gone with the Wind Analysis and 2 weeks for my Charlie's Angels Parody, that I posted a couple of days ago. Well ya know, Charlie's Angels is so complex, that it would have to take a lot more thought, Right????? <VBG>

> Yeh, I spent a month traveling around Australia and New Zealand. I have an Aunt and Uncle that live in Perth. Best Vacation of my life... Both countries are spectacular and both have the friendliest people you'd ever want to meet. My Uncle offered to sponsor me to work in Australia for a year. And as much as I really want to go back to Texas, I've seriously considered it. So you know it has to be special, for me to forego Texas again... <g> I'll have to wait and see how I feel in 4 months. What part of New Zealand are you going to?
> As for tips, be careful if you order a hamburger. I can't remember if it was Australia or New Zealand, but I ordered a hamburger with the lot. Thought I was going to get a hamburger with the basics, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mustard. I got one with ketchup, eggs, and beets on it.... Quite a surprise... <g>

Howdy, PN,
Sounds like you had a blast. When did you go? Was it recent? I'd love to go to both countries but the time constraints prevent this so I'm goin' for NZ, mainly 'cause it's smaller to be honest and more remote. I really need to get away on my vacations, you know, escape. Am in the plannin' stages now, tryin' to work out the whole cost issue with a couple other friends. We're shootin' for post-Christmas to beginning of January time (their summer). I desperately want to back-pack and take photos from atop some mountain. Just a little fantasy of mine. My friend, Jason, however, is more inclined toward the "fine dining and pool-side valet service" kind of vacation. Told him he'd better buy a pair of hiking boots and a bottle of sunscreen 'cause this vacation is about adventure. Ha!
Which island (North or South) did you visit? What was your favorite place? Did you visit both the tropical and glacial areas? Ooooo, am burning with antici--(think ROCKY HORROR)--pation!
