Gabrielle tried to talk sense to Xena but to no avail so she held a pitchfork to Xena"s throat trying to stop her. Xena pushed Gabrielle out of the way and continued to advance toward the villagers. Then Gabrielle turned around and cracked Xena over the head with the pitchfork. Xena fell, but slowly got back on her feet, shocked, and then realized what she was doing. A good whack on the head was all she needed to pull her out of her darkside. Ok, the question from Whoosh. This time Gabrielle only injured Xena, but what if Gabrielle couldn"t have pulled Xena from her darkside. If necessary, could Gabrielle kill Xena? What do you all think? Could Gabrielle kill her best friend to save the lives of others?

Of course she would have to find a way to stop Xena but certainly not kill her. For example, in Sacrifice 2, she knows that Xena could kill Hope in order to save the world, but if Xena do so, she'll die. Gabrielle did save the world, by killing Hope by herself (well that's at least what they want us to think yet till next season) and killing herself in the process. Gabrielle would rather die then killing Xena.

Good question. Honestly, I don't think Gabby could ever kill Xena; I think she would die first. You
bring up the point of Xena returning to her darkside and basically becoming a murderer once again. We
have to remember that Gabby has been traveling with Xena for over three years and they are constantly
coming in contact with murderers and assassins, yet Gabby would not kill any of them. Now if Gabby
couldn't kill these murderers she doesn't even know, how could she kill the person she loves more than
anyone else in the world. I know Gabby has now lost her blood innocence, but that was a totally different
situation.
If this situation did come about and Xena was about to kill some innocent people and Gabby couldn't talk
any sense into her, I think she would simply stand in between Xena and her victims and tell her if you want
to kill them your gonna have to kill me first. Gabby would willingly give up her life before killing Xena,
she just loves her too much.

This is an interesting topic with a lot of interesting discussion going on in the thread.. The question reminds me of one raised in one of the golden hind episodes of HTLJ. Hercules was injured and facing possible imprisonment for allegedly murdering his bride. After caring for Hercules' wounds, Xena walked outside the cave where he was being hidden to talk with Iolaus. Iolaus was debating whether he would be able to kill his best friend in order to save him from disgrace and imprisonment. He said that, if Hercules were imprisoned, all the good he had done would be forgotten. He wanted Hercules remembered as the champion of mankind, not as a murderer. Xena said that Iolaus would not be capable of killing Hercules but that she was and that, if she had to, she would do it. (Out of this conversation came the plan that kept either of them from having to see if he or she could kill Hercules out of "mercy.")
I think the point of this conversation was that Xena is one kind of person, the kind capable of killing anyone, if the reason were strong enough, and that Iolaus is another. Gabrielle is NOT the type of person Xena is. Although this season we were asked to believe that she could betray Xena to a monster like Ming Tien out of jealousy, even then she did not mean for Xena to die. (Suffer a little, perhaps, but not die. <G>) The fight in Bitter Suite culminated with both of Xena and Gabrielle going over the falls, and this seemed to be part of the "plan" that was to end their feud and bring them back together. It was not due to any homicidal urge on Gabrielle's part, as hurt and angry as she was.
It was to save Xena's life and, perhaps, to expiate her own guilt, that Gabrielle pulled Hope into the pit. (She was making sure this time, having already "apologized" to Hope for failing to kill her with the poison.)
Would Gabrielle kill Xena to save others? I think she would die (again?) to save them, but I don't think she would kill Xena. She's just the "wrong" kind of person for that job.

Hello Lawless,
That Woosh site is great, thanks for bring something over for us to chew on.
IMHO I think Gabrielle is an idealist and despite all that has happened to
her she still holds on to those beliefs. If Xena were to cross over with no
hope left of redemption, then I believe that Gabrielle could find it in herself
to do whatever she felt she must. Let us not forget Gabrielle found it within
herself to kill(or at least she believed she did) her own daughter. The real
question would be could Gabrielle survive after she killed Xena. I would tend
to think not. She wouldn't go suicidal or anything, I just think she have a
serious problem with living. Kind of like Callisto, but Gabrielle would deal
with it differently.
