Archived Huge News Announced 8/23/99:

Big News: Well,
it happened. Alert the media. I am engaged to be married. Here
are some pictures of me and my intended (double click photo
to see full size). Dan and I are extremely happy and looking
forward to our life together. He proposed Friday August 20, 1999
and we drove down from Santa Barbara to LA (where he grew up)
and surprised his folks with the news. Being that my family is
so spread across the U.S., they all got the news via telephone
lines.
It will take some time to iron out the details,
but we're hoping to be married this coming April in Boston. Currently,
Dan is working hard in the silicon valley as an engineer for Boeing
and I'm in Santa Barbara having lots of fun in the sun, writing,
and playing my guitar. I have an upcoming previously planned trip
to Orlando (& Disney World) with my family and then to Boston
over the next few weeks. Also, Dan and I plan to take a week in
October to go to the Grand Canyon and Sedona (visit my aunt there).
After that I'm hoping to move back up to the Bay Area before Thanksgiving.
A lot of the timing is dependent on finding a nice house to rent.
I'm going to be working on wedding plans, traveling, writing my
book, and hopefully do some contract engineering for medical device
companies between now and the wedding.
We've also discovered that there is a great
benefit to being married in the year 2000. It will be easy to
figure out just what year anniversary it is... 2007- seven years,
2010 - ten years, 2036 - thirty-six years... you get the gist.
We'll never get that stupid look of counting on our faces when
someone asks "How long you two been married?"
After we get back from the honeymoon (we have
a list of possibilities), I plan to contract/consult part time
and still write. It's an exciting time in our lives and we're
very much in love. We hope to get matching iBooks. No, actually,
we want an iBook and a new iMac and to have a wireless network
in our house. It's very important to want the same things when
entering into matrimony. You couldn't imagine me with a Microsoft
or PC type person, could you?

Some folks have expressed surprise and confusion
at the news. Well it was a surprise to me as well. I began dating
Dan back in February of 1995 (yes, ~4 1/2 years ago) and it has
been quite the epic dramedy. We dated, moved from Santa Barbara
to San Jose, lived together, lived apart, dated, were friends,
dated, then I moved back to Santa Barbara, dated long distance,
didn't date the last 2 months (you getting all this?), then realized
we were truly meant for each other. So yes, we did become engaged
within 36 hours of seeing each other, but that's really 4 1/2
years and 36 hours (when you know, you just know).
Here we are last September when my
friends Michele and Jon came to San Fransisco - only I forgot
to open my eyes, and
