The Year
It was all so unexpected. My feelings
unrehearsed.
Resolved to enjoy my loneliness and
ignore my chronic thirst.
In an instant the world has changed.
Past perspective barred from view,
from the wetting of an appetite, the
moment I met you.
The ties that bind become undone, and
the next begin.
As minutes become hours, I keep my
hopes within.
Days past our first encounter, off
in the distance I see
a future, though uncertain, beckoning
to me.
Now a year gone by, the moment to which
we have traveled.
Only now we view together a common
past unraveled.
We've shared many thoughts and feelings
with the comfort of held hands
on our unfolding journey to someone
who understands.
