rose.jpg (22368 bytes)The wood used in carving the rose was basswood. It was then given many washes of  acrylic paint in varying hues from red to yellow. It was sealed with a matte finish and the base is aromatic cedar, from the inside of a very old cedar chest.

                                                                                                cyprus.jpg (25748 bytes)

This happy little pair I found in a "cyprus                                                                 knee" that I picked up in Florida.

                                     windspirit.jpg (9314 bytes)

This Woodspirit is natural pine, polished with paste wax and                                                                     the background is stained pine.

lighthouse.jpg (27978 bytes)This lighthouse and seagull scene was one of the few marquetry pieces that I attempted.

indian.jpg (9339 bytes)

This was an experiment when I first purchased a scroll saw and I incorporated the marquetry of the indian blending into the eagle.

face2.jpg (15842 bytes)

face1.jpg (12351 bytes)These two faces are my method of a basic type of

Intarsia.  They were each cut with the scroll saw from one piece of wood,

then each piece was shaped, sanded, then stained and reassembled.

cane.jpg (38818 bytes)This started out as an old broom that was destined for

the garbage. I decided I would take it with me when going

to club meetings and carve away at it to pass the time, as it

would not require any concentration. I just carved anything that came

to mind, animals, faces etc. (even have my husbands's face in there).

To my surprise it took second place at one show, and later a first place at

                           the Ontario Woodcarvers annual show.
