Back in the early 70's, four guys from New York City formed one of the hardest working, loudest, most sex-crazed bands in the world. Simply put: "You wanted the best, you got the best the hottest band in the world KISS!!". Back then, Marvel put out two comic books giving the band members super powers, and the cover of the first comic contained their blood mixed in with the red ink. Anyway, this page isn't about those books, it's about the new Image book called KISS Psycho Circus. That's right folks Gene,Peter,Paul, and Ace have teamed up with Todd McFarlane the creator of Spawn.Oh yeah the new CD is also entitled Psycho Circus.
But on to the comic itself. In the first issue, a boy named Adam Moon goes to the circus with his friends. While he is there, he experiences strange flashes of "monsters or deamons or something". He wanders around the circus, confused, until a crow speaks to him and calls him into Madam Raven's tent. Madam Raven is the blind fourtune teller of the circus and as we later find out, the keeper of the Four who are One. While he is there, Madam Raven shows him his past, then asks about what he wants for his future. Adam becomes scared and runs out of the tent and goes home. Elsewhere, after the circus, the ringmaster morphs into his ater-ego, the demon (Gene Simmons). When Adam gets home, it is very late and he tries to sneak in and avoid his abusive father. He failes, and his father beats him yet again. Afterwards, Adam is is his room and one of his friends comes and knocks on the window. Adam sneaks out and is talking about the world and the cirus with his friend. The comic ends with them walking down the street and Adam saying as far as he is concerned, everyone is his town "can all go straight to hell" , as the demon looks on.
Issue number two begins with the demon watching over Adam and his friend as they hang out late at night. The demon is thinking about revenge, revenge on Adam's father and all those that have hurt Adam. A cop, officer Kerner, who obviously has notheing better to do, corners Adam and his friend in an alley and begins chasing them. The demon follows the cop and kills him. The next day, Adam is at school thinking about the events of the past few nights and his teacher grabs him by the ear. A cat, called by the The Beast King (Peter Criss) attacks the teacher. After school, Adam sees a girl that he has a crush on and the Starbearer (Paul Stanley) makes roses grow all over her house. Adam is then met by a preist or preacher, who tells him that "if theres a soul in town that could use some redeeming its yours", and that if Adam was more "pious" his "sister pheobe whouldnt' have died". Adam tells the preacher to go to hell and at that moment, lightening, sent by the Celestial (Ace Frehley) strikes the steeple of the church. Adam's thoughts then turn to his father, the father that beats him on a daily basis, and he thinks how much he wants him dead. When he arrives home, he finds that his father is in fact dead, a victim of all the beatings he ever gave Adam. Scared by the recent events, Adam returns to the circusand re-enters Madam Raven's tent where he sees his father lying on a bed, surrounded by the Four-who-are -One. he has to make a choice, to kill his father or to let him live. Adam makes the choice, and as he tells his sister Pheobe's grave at the end of the comic, "Dad's okay now, but I still cant look at him. I had to make a choice. I chose not to be like him."
I really don't much about issue number three so, I'll move on ahead to issues four, five, and six.A depressed Kismet ponders her troubled life and puzzles over a recurring dream. She stumbles upon references to the Four-Who-Are-One(also known as The Elder or The Old Ones) figures in an old book and realizes the symbols as the ones from her dream.Later, when she goes to see the circus she is is confronted by her bad memories. She later joins the circus as a young woman who walks between worlds.
