death Death has intrigued man ever since he became self aware. The representation of death is pretty much universal. An image of a human skull reminds us all of our own mortality. The Aztec goddess of death was Mictlantecuhtli. Who is not pictured. This is mixture of a few deities. Quetzalcoati the god of air and commerce, how seemingly predicted the coming of the Spanish; Quetzalcoatl (note the "l" instead of an "i") the feathered serpent god and Mictlantecuhtli the lady and goddess of Mictlan and the Realm of the Dead. I took the universal symbol of death, the skull and mixed that with the idea of the end of the world was connected to the arrival of the Spanish.
