With the coming of the Luma Portals in the late 27 century, transportation in vehicles became obsolete. But for the explorers, who reach out into the vast unknown in their small fast ships setting up portal waypoints as they went, no one needed to depend upon mechanical transportation. When one could, by walking through a door, step out into the vast garden domes of Mars, the orbital Solar capital city of Chambell's Can, or simply across town, the need for transportation became a distant nostalgic memory. People still remembered their past and the great wind driven ships of another time and so the age of the great air- platforms were born. Driven by physics little understood by man but more than adequacy controlled by their machines, these huge floating cities were, when need be, completely airtight. Argon and Odysseus although not the largest are generally agreed to be the most beautiful of the fleet. Built by the famous Eros asteroid shipyards, they make the most popular transits. Casting through the huge portals made for large vessels as these.
