One Small Soul

I closed my eyes,
And heard the cries,
And piercing screams,
Of shattered dreams,
A bleeding heart,
All ripped apart,
And thrown away,
Like common clay.

Beneath the rain,
I followed pain,
And found it dying,
Hurting, crying,
All broken down,
Upon the ground,
Covered in mud,
And smeared with blood.

It was a bird
Whose voice I heard,
With broken wing,
It could not sing,
Or fly on high,
Up in the sky,
A world so fair,
Homeland of air.

Then I knelt down,
Upon that ground,
And raised it high,
To give it sky,
I wept my tears,
And cleansed its fears,
This wounded dove,
I gave it love.
