"Bethlehem"

A star paints the night with twilight
as new hopes abound
the earth has a heart of glory
man has finally found
the release of peace through Jesus.

This poem was written about a man who was a member
of the author's church, who passed away.

"For Bill Jones"

Clear, placid eyes,
the eyes of a child,
As blue as the sky,
a heart just as wide.
A heart wide enough,
and sheltering, warm
to hold all of us
in the midst of the storm.

The eyes of your heart
were singly blest
to see but the good,
to look for the best.

So good with a tale,
and free with a joke;
a sunburst of joy
whenever you spoke.

Your wide, impish grin
as if you'd been naughty;
a sweet little boy
in an elderly body.

Always at prayer,
and at every service;
bent on a broom,
a menial servant.

For fifty-two years
a faithful husband;
so many tears,
but you seldom showed them.

Return to the blue
of the untrammelled sky;
your heartache is through;
your love never dies.

"I Would Like"

(a children's poem)
by Cheryl Wylie

I would like to be a bear;
I'd have a furry coat to wear.
I would like to be a bird;
I'd sing and never say a word.
I would like to be a cloud,
floating in the sky, so proud.
I would like to be the sun,
smiling down on everyone.
I would like to be the breeze
and float across the world with ease.
I would like to be the sea,
stretching on so endlessly.
I would like to be a rose,
pleasing to the eye and nose.
I would like to be a tree,
dancing with the wind, so free.
All these things I'd like to be,
but I love just being me.
I am just a little child
lowly, humble, meek and mild
of my Father, God above,
who gave His Son for me, with love.
Jesus showed us all the way;
and so a child of God I'll stay!

"So Free"

As cloud mists rise in the west
and sunlight lights the sea
Seabirds search the ocean's crest
They sail away.......So Free

As daylight turns away night's face
the ocean softly shines
It seems to me no other place
Could ever look so fine

When cloud mists fall in the west
and moonlight lights the sea
I think of Heaven at its best
I sail away.......So Free.

"Swaying In The Wind"

Such tall, thin trees
swaying in the wind.
I look at the trees and think
how can they stand?
Surely they will fall if any breeze did blow,
but instead they thrive and grow.
What then, what is keeping them there
rising high in the tall thin air?

I am like the tall thin trees
swaying in the wind.
Weak and limp, swaying in each breeze.
So how do I stand?
My roots in You, strong and sound.
They hold me up
like their roots in the ground.

"The Winds Of Reflection"

Soft spring breezes
float through my window
bringing memories of childhood
pleasant days that are no more
lost behind reasons unexplored
for fear of finding
what I do not know
greater fear of finding
what I do
rippling breezes, like waves
upon oceans of air
clouds form islands transparent
to only me
summer winds race
through worlds unexplored
"OH!!" That I could be an Angel
riding winds
through aeons of time
guiding with elegant ease
the billowing breeze
to nowhere....
in my mind
to nowhere....
in my mind.

"Psalm 93"

[A Modern Day Version]

1.The beauty of creation,
adorns everlasting God,
in powerful beauty,
He is adorned.
His creation is forever,
unchanging forever.
2.Forever and ever,
You have been exceedingly great.
3.Oceans dance with joy,
their breakers sing of You;
their awesome waves, drum eternity.
4.As magnificent the songs
they drum unto You;
You are more magnificent.
More beautiful than the songs,
their breakers sing;
You are exceedingly great.
5.Your greatness upholds the beauty,
of creation;
so sovereign and sacred forever;
as forever You are.

A Note To The Reader

My Dear Friends, I realize that the following poem concerns an unpleasant subject. However, considering the response it has been receiving, it is proving to be, perhaps, the most important poem I've ever written. I decided to publish it in this public setting in the hopes of reaching out to those who it may touch, as is my wish for all of the poetry I've written. If the poem below causes even one reader stop and think, then it will have served its purpose. Thank You. In Christ... Sam Hyde

"Laurie"

[Suicide Lasts Lifetimes]

I sit by the phone
the silent line calls your name
if the roots of your death
grow as deep
as the pain I feel
every tree that's now young
will be as dead as the lives
redefined in the moment
that lasts forever
in which you broke
your mothers heart
many other hearts too
by ending your life
SUICIDE LASTS LIFETIMES!!
for those who love you most
I see you time to time
beneath the sorrow tree
now watered
by countless tears
from the eyes of those
who love you
didn't you believe
the creator of life
when He said
He'd stand by you
didn't you believe
Isaiah 41:10
that He was there
for you, my friend
I see through the pain
as I sit by the phone
that ever conceals your voice

the yards we once played in
the homes by the sea
the tree by the sea
our own special tree
once watered with love
our hearts
in agreement
the clarity of love
we shared
beneath the sorrow tree
I sit silently buried, deep as the roots
of the sorrow tree
the years make no difference
to the many hearts shattered
drowned beneath the sea
of the love
they still have for you
if the roots of your pain
were as deep as the roots
of our tree by the shore
that you had to end the hurt
why didn't you turn to me?
for now we see that
you have died your death
we have ours yet to live
unending unhappiness
permeates the room
as I sit by the phone in silence
I see us
in my mind, hand in hand
I see us
as we stroll down the beach
I see us
we walk, we talk, we plan.
Now when I walk
I don't see us
alone, when I walk
I don't see us
now all I see is sand
just sand.

"Prologue"

I thought I saw your face in a flower
I guess we all have memories to bear
if I had known how short the bloom
of life would be within you
I would've shown you more that I cared
if I had known the pains inside you
I would have shared them
Sweet flower you were
in memories I now hold dear
Oh; that you'd bloomed sooner
within my broken heart
now your pain has hurt us both
How I wish that I'd been there
for you.

"Forgetting"

Forgetting is easy
With such peace
the stars practically touching my face
with caresses as soft as the night
it's so easy to forget
the cares this world brings
when closing one's eyes
in prayers that only an intimacy with nature
can express,
the fingerprint of God brushes by
painting a once frantic life
in hues of peace and harmony
and love.

"In This Room"

The Love that sets my immortal soul free
is in this room
this quietude
is the peaceful Love You put inside of me

The Peace that comes from knowing You
is in my heart
to never depart
until my time on earth is through

I believe You wait to set my heart free
in Peaceful Love
Love that's enough
to give me peace as I wait for Thee

The Peace that sets my immortal soul free
is in this room
this quietude
is the Loving Peace You put inside of me.

"To All"

To all of my friends out there on the net
To all of the people I don't yet know
To all of the people in all of the world
I WISH YOU LOVE AS THE SEASON GROWS

To all of the people in countries so far
To All of the children unloved
I bring you a song from the pit of my heart
And it's written in warmth from above.

I bring you the truth from a God that's on high,
I bring you the truth of his Son
I tell you he knows about all of your woes
And his love will conquer each one.

So look up on high in this season of joy
Look up on high and rejoice.
For the son of man has delivered his life
So that each of us may have a choice.

Give thanks for your lot and the fact of your life,
Give thanks for the joy of his name.
I've given you reasons for knowing his love
Now offer him up your pain.

I offer this rhyme for your critique, and as a gesture
Of my love for my fellow man in this time of reflection
During this season of goodwill to all men.
Merry Christmas to one and all!

"Political Correctness"

Political correctness excuses all things
inside the cogs of satan's machine
abortion is fine for all that it's worth
to control all the babies born on this earth
POLITICALLY CORRECT!!
to kill before birth

You say you'll have sex with whoever you can
well; that's just fine under the plan
offending noone that's the great goal
to keep God away from societies' soul
and see that NOONE! detracts from the whole

Morality's now a long deceased dream
it didn't fit in with the satanic scheme
and congress won't dare
stand up for light
nothing to them's worth it to fight
to risk the offending
the left or the right

God put us down here to share in His plan
and sent His Son Jesus to give us a hand
just look what we do with such wonderful grace
by turning away from decency's face
OH NO!! we cannot risk societies' disgrace

Political correctness is "NO GUTS ALLOWED"
just follow our leaders, although they are cowed
some life this is to lose all our heart
what cowardice, these So-Called Leaders impart
if they stood up for right,
what would it start?

It's not too late to ask God to help
But; Wait Just A Minute!
WHAT OF MY WEALTH???
don't sweat the decline of all that is good
stay in at night in your own 'hood'
if only we could; you know:
that WE WOULD!

I guess we should change our own ways
before we get caught within the haze
of following each other
just for the ease
of worrying only if it will please
them that elect the politically correct.

"Warning Signs"

By Katie Ranft

If we avoid the warning signs
of the end of times
What will come of us
we should of listened to Our Father
He gave us His word to read
He gave us Jesus to lead
through this time of need
so through us we can all plant His seeds

"I Shall Not List My Troubles"

A Poem By René

I shall not list my troubles,
Instead I will recite,
Of beauty, fun and what I love
Of everything that's right.
I shall not count my problems,
Instead I shall add up
How friends and times and memories
Still overflow my cup.
Don't detail flaws and defects,
Instead elaborate,
On wonders of the universe
And how your God is great!
