"The Candle"...before AND after...©
-BEFORE-
(blow)
flick out a candle.
Watch the remaining cherry ember
burn on the tip of the wick.
The smoldering, snaky smoke
rises and reaches for the heights of the ceiling.
Knowing it won't reach it.
And it will die before it even realizes that it ever lived.
The sweet smell of scented wax cooling.
-AFTER-
"Life of a Flame"
What possesses the magic that will bring forth life to a flame? Who is its
"mother"? Who births this "child"? Perhaps, one of many, a match. Although this
is man made. I do not consider that which is man made to be the mother to
anything but disaster.
Strike a match. Watch it flare with life, then steadily gleam. The flame
dances and flickers, full of life. Is it indeed? But take caution...the match
is almost spent. Feel the heat reaching your fingertips. Place the flame onto
the wick of a candle. Its small circle of dim light is its world, the wick, its
nourishment. The candle burns slow. The colored wax drips down the side, then
quickly cools. Frozen.
The creation, life and destruction of a world. Save what is left.
Blow out the candle. Watch the remaining cherry ember burn on the tip of the
wick. The smoldering, snaky smoke rises for the heights of the ceiling. Knowing
it won't reach it and die before it even realizes that it ever lived. The sweet
smell of scented wax cooling. Preserved. Until the next time. The cycle of
destruction is always the same. No matter what, whom, or where.
