"The Soul" ©

      Tonight's the night I lived,
      Tonight's the night I died,
      I knew you'd never forgive,
      Me for leaving your side.

I knew that you were lonely,
I knew you needed me there,
But you know that you're my only,
      True friend that ever cared.

Yet you still must ask me,
"What made you have to leave?"
Even though you're a part of me,
I felt you were being deceived.

      I couldn't watch it happen,
      It tore me apart inside,
      To see your spirits dampen,
I just had to stand aside.

You must live your life without me,
I give you nothing but pain,
All you feel is of fault of me,
      Feeling like you're just insane.

Yet you turn to me and cry,
"YOU are the reason I feel,"
"the reason that I do not die,"
"if you go I might as well."

      "Can't you see we're one?
There is no 'you' or 'me',
There's only US and who WE are,
That shouldn't be difficult to see."

      Pondering your heartfelt words,
I cock my head to one side,
      Is togetherness what we deserve?
This isn't for me to decide.

For who is one without their soul?
More lost than when it was found,
For all of life, it takes its toll,
      But eternity we're bound.
