Cherry's True Hallowe'en Story

One night several years ago on Hallowe'en there was a girl named Chairy. She was walking home from her friend, Jeri's house at 10:00PM (quite early for Hallowe'en night). She was with her best friend, Lee. They walked and walked and walked. They were very close to Chairy's house when they decided that it was too early to be going home. So they walked to the small man-made lake near Chairy's house and sat on a bench and talked for almost an hour before they decided it was finally late enough to go home.

They were walking along the side of a road. They were about 10 minutes away from Chairy's house when they realized that things seemed eerily quiet. Chairy in an attempt to break the spooky quietness made a joke about their candy bags making good weapons. They walked for a minute making little jokes about being kidnapped and force-fed bananas (Chairy and Lee both held disdain for bananas).

A car started following them with the high beams on. Chairy was worried. Lee told Chairy it was nothing but both of them still quickened their steps. The car stopped and Lee breathed a sigh of relief but Chairy was still scared so made she pulled Lee along, making her walk faster.

When Chairy heard a car door open she paniced. Sure enough a guy had gotten out of the car and had started running after Chairy and Lee. The car sped up and kept pace with Chairy and Lee's running. Actually it was more like Lee running and Chairy being dragged along behind her.

The boys were yelling awful things out the window. Threatening them and scaring them. The bananas no longer seemed so horrible. And the candy bags no longer were weapons but hindrances to their get-a-way. Lee still had some sense and dragged Chairy to the nearest house and pushed her way through the door without ringing the doorbell. The boy who had been following them on foot started banging on the door. The owner of the house came upstarts and almost kicked Chairy and Lee out until he realized that Lee has suddenly turned hysterical.

The boys who chased Chairy and Lee were never found by the police and but the story ends happily enough. Chairy and Lee are both alive and well.
