How I love to go out on Halloween night
It gives give me the shivers, and sometimes the frights!
All the kiddies wrapped up in costumes with care
But I tell all their parents 'Beware, beware!'
And when they ask curious questions I reply
"Why you've never heard the story called 'Stumpy's Cry?'"
"Why no!" they say "What the heaven's is that?"
"It all started with a simple dog chasing a cat.
T'was on a Halloween night exaclty like this
That a dog was doomed to death's bitter kiss
The dog's name was Guiddo, a bichon frisé
And he loved to chase cats, said the owner one day.
As his owner handed out candy on Halloween night
She opened the door and caused a huge fright
For Guiddo had run through the door, and far out of sight
To chase a cat 'cross the street; he ran with all might
He lept over fences, running with speed and grace
But the stubborn cat refused to slow down her pace
The chase continued through backyards, alleys, and fields
Both of them refusing to give up and yeild
And finally, when they had reached a dead end street,
The cat hissed; face to face both animals meet
She was trapped in a corner with nowhere to go
But suddenly, a stranger stepped out of the shadow
This mysterious figure was carrying a knife
And he made Guiddo fear dearly for his life
'Get away from my cat' the deep voice said
The dog backed away, bowing his head
But the dark, evil shadow grabbed him by the tail
And he refused let go of his appendage so frail
And with one swift slash with his big butcher's knife
The tail was cut off, no longer in sight!
The injured animal uttered a long, painful cry
Before wimpering away to crawl up and die
'Stumpy', he was nicknamed, never reappeared since that night
With a stump for a tail, he would be quite a sight.
But some people say, on every Halloween,
A dog with no tail can sometimes be seen
And if you listen closely, you'll hear him cry
A howling wail so misrable, it makes people sigh
So next time you go out on Halloween night
Make sure to bring your dog on a leash!"
P.S. This story is dedicated to my own "Stumpy" named Guiddo
