Review of RENT
by SpiderWebs

Some of us can't afford $75 tickets to see the Broadway-Hit RENT. But if your willing to sleep outside the Royal Alexendra Theatre, you might be lucky enough to get $20 orchestra tickets. Rent, in so many words, is a vibrant, vital celebration of life. It's about a group of young friends in New York city, trying to survive and find love, though homelessness, addictions and AIDS. But behind these serious topics lies a "Carpe Diem" theme; to live life to the fullest because it could end any day. The ironic twist to the success of RENT is the fate of it's writer, Jonathan Larson. Just before the premier performance of RENT, off-Broadway in New York, Jonathan Larson died suddenly of an aortic aneurysm. He would never hear the praises from critics, or know of the shattered box-office records for the 7 years of work he put into RENT. In this 90's version of the quintessential love story, you'll fall in love with the characters and the best score on Broadway in a long time.
