Everyone loves to go shopping. But most of us have a minor problem: limited cash flow. It's hard to find anything decent under $50, especially if you perfer brand names like The Gap or Club Monaco. So, for your viewing pleasure, I've complied a list of outlet and warehouse stores for shopping on a budget.
Club Monaco - If you're one of those people who to spend $79 on a
little, black dress, then you're probably a Club Monaco addict. If you
don't want to spend these outrageous prices, visit the Club Monaco
Warehouse sale which returns very
season (Summer, Spring, Fall and Winter) at 260 Belfield Rd. or 275 Bloor
St. West.
You'll probably find advertisements in the paper. Cherry Bomb informs me
that the savings are better than they used to be.
The Gap - " I didn't know The Gap had warehouse sales" you say. That's
because they never advertise. The first time they promoted this sale, they
had line up's to hell and back. To find out the time and location of this
sale, you must inquire at any retail Gap store of pick up a flyer on their
counter.
The Dixie Value Mall - is located at the intersection of QEW and Dixie
Rd. This mall is filled with outlet stores, but since most of them carry
disconntinued or out-of-season clothes, you have to search to find anything
decent. Beware of some of the "Old Lady" stores still selling 80's
clothing. Some of the stores worth visiting include Jacob, Aldo, Pegabo,
Cotton Ginny,
Stitches, and Athlete's World.
Duffrin and Orphus Rd - is an area just behind Yorkdale Mall. Beware of
some of
the cheesy warehouses there. Some good ones include Le Chateau, Roots,
Stitches
and the Shoe Club ( ok, I guess that one's a little cheesy). Prepare to
sift through a lot of crap to get to the good stuff. If you happen to be at
Yorkdale, stop by this area. But other than the Le Chateau Outlet, it's
not
worth the gas it takes to travel there.
Thrift shops - If you're not the "trendy chick" type, you can always
visit the multitude of thrift stores avaliable. Take a look-see at
Brampton's infamous "Value Village" (BTW Spiderwebs is rumored to work
there!) at the 410 & 7 Plaza on Queen Street. Or if you're looking for
something more
intresting, there's a variety of second-hand stores in Downtown Toronto
near the intersection of Queen and Spadina (just don't get lost like
Cherrybomb and end up in Kensington Market). Some of them look so classy,
you can't even tell they're second hand! Prices downtown are a little
higher.
Editors Note: My favourie second hand shop downtown is the
Black Market. :-)
Heartland Centre - serves as a clearance center for such stores as Club
Monaco, Roots, Jacob, The Shoe Company and Danier. I haven't visited this
place yet but I hear prices are well below regular retail. It's open year
round and is located at
Rodeo Dr. (southeast corner of Mavis and Britannia Rds. ), Mississauga.
And if you're not satisfied, you can always cross the border to our Americain neighbours (NOT neighbors) into Buffalo; the mother city of warehouse shopping.
There's only one rule when you go Shoestring Shopping: buy in bulk. If you don't buy a lot, it's not worth the time or trouble to find that perfect piece of cloting at that perfect price.
That's all for now. If you have any outlet stores or warehouses you think
should
be added to this list, please e-mail me at Dharman@netcom.ca and I'll
check
out your recommendation (which probably means I'll be spending more
money)
Happy shopping!!
