The Best Costume Links Out There, Part 2
In an ideal world, all costume sites would be just like their page devoted to Charles Frederick Worth. This page is superb. Beautiful, incomparable images of Worth from the earliest years to the 1st World War link to larger images with informative captions, AND you get an essay all about Worth too. If you can understand French - I don't, but I picked up enough from the captions accompanying the pictures to identify the images - then this wonderful page of EIGHTY-FIVE images from the Musee de la mode et du Textile will become more than merely mouth-watering. You can't really link to this archive from their homepage - which is one of the best costume museum home-pages that I've seen, even if it is in French. The homepage link is below.
No English translations! This site, if I could understand French, could easily be one of the finest out there. It uses its collection to enhance its text, especially in its chronologie de la mode site. You can click on the popped-up images for an even closer view. The only annoying thing is that there are no captions to the images, which I feel tarnishes this site a bit. Other than that - superb! Even if you can't understand a word it says, go along and admire the scenery. Another photographic archive will be found on this page under the documentation photographique link.
