The Best Costume Links Out There, Part 4
Now for the other stores of vintage clothing that I often pop into - with, as usual, my overview.
If you see something you REALLY want on this site, grab it quick! This site is UK-based - hey, an UK dealer's site! Cool! The images vary in quality but are generally worth a look. The categories are easy to use and there is even information about antique fairs and dealers in the UK. The only problem - it just isn't updated quickly enough, and when it does, all the best pieces are snaffled within nanoseconds! Just too reasonably priced, maybe!
A very nice site, and relatively easy to navigate. Why I haven't put it on the previous page I am not sure, but then, it just narrowly missed being categorised among the creme de la creme. Maybe I should have a page for the semi-skimmed creme de la creme! There are many nice images (of variable quality) and some very reasonable pricing. VISIT IT.
A wonderful name for a costume dealer's! It has many categories and a very easy to use search engine. Also very reasonably priced. The sole issue I have is that the pictures often don't seem to do justice to the goods.
A charming and well-laid out site which specialises in 19th-20th century fashions. It is updated every Monday. Easy to navigate and very reasonably priced.
This dealer specialises in 1920s-50s costume but also sells really VERY reasonably priced Victorian and Edwardian costume. Full of quite attractive pieces and worth looking at.
Not as nifty as it might be - this is a copiously stocked site, but is hardly categorised at all. Garments from the 19th century to the 1950s are lumped together under one category, hats under another, underwear under another. Some reorganisation would be appreciated to separate periods and if it is updated daily, then it needs to direct us to the updated pages. I don't like having to trawl through page after page of stuff I have seen before searching for new additions. It is a shame, since I like a lot of what is on offer. There is a search engine but if you're interested in costume in general, this doesn't usually help you.
A few things prevented me from placing this on the previous page. This site has many, many wonderful things to offer, but a) it is still under construction and has been for what seems a long time. b) the images are, to be frank, of poor quality, and don't really do much for the clothes. However, you must visit this page! Try the quiz if you dare! Don't know something about modern couture? Ask these guys - they know their stuff!
Attractive if somewhat busily wallpapered site, updated infrequently, and full of beautiful pieces. Not as extensive as some sites, but the costumes here are nicely photographed and the prices seem quite reasonable. A restoration service is offered on items which you are interested in.
Interesting. I hadn't seen this site before I started on this page but think it may well be worth keeping an eye on. It seems to be updated quite frequently, and is categorised quite sensibly. Plus, looking at the couture section, there are dates (thank goodness!) and information about the pieces. I like what I have seen so far.
Really youth orientated. The labelling is a bit small and difficult to read if you're short-sighted and the images are REALLY small as well - annoyingly so, even, in the case of black or dark coloured clothes, when you cannot see the details. It is still worth looking at, and features, on the front page, if you click on "Collector's Guide", two very interesting and well-illustrated mini essays, one on "Glam" and the other on post-war vintage couture.
