Mission 1: Planet PX93509 (Nariss)
Sunlight filtered down through the trees surrounding the Stargate.
A few birds could be heard chirping high above. The atmosphere was
serene, undisturbed. That is, until the gate began its rotation and
rumbled to life. Soon, the liquid shot out of the center before
settling into a shimmering surface.
Four figures stepped forward, through the ring. They stood for a
moment, taking in the surroundings. "This seems peaceful enough."
Daniel Jackson announced, walking down the steps of the dais.
"Yeah, famous last words, Danny." Jack grumbled, distrustful as
always.
Daniel just rolled his eyes and started to explore. A flash of
color caught his eye to his right and he wandered over to investigate.
"If the rest of the planet's this nice, I vote overthrowing any goa'ulds
and taking over" declared Jack.
"I have never been to this world before" announced Teal'c, in his usual
monotonous voice.
"Where's Daniel?" queried Sam.
The three members of SG1 looked around them for their colleague, who
appeared to have wandered off without waiting for the rest of the team.
"Why do anthropologists always wander?" sighed Jack in frustration.
It was a habit Daniel seemed to have had ever since his first journey
through the Stargate.
Something would catch his eye, or he'd just be plain nosy, and without a
word - gone! Leaving his puzzled friends the task of trying to figure
out at just what point he'd disappeared, and where to start looking.
"Daniel is not here." Trust Teal'c to state the obvious.
Weapons at the ready, the three explored the immediate area around the
Stargate. It didn't take long. The gate was centered in a small
clearing of a wooded valley, with rather large rock faces
immediately behind and to the sides of it.
"Well, this is a dead end. Guess we're heading down" said Sam
cheerfully, as she started forwards on a trail along the floor of the
valley.
"Brilliant. I can tell I'm going to enjoy this." Jack muttered sarcastically
and he followed in Sam's footsteps. "When we find Daniel, remind me to kill
that
wander-of-and-make-his-colleagues-come-clambering-down-rock-faces-after-him
neck of his."
Sam smiled at his, having come used to Jack's some what odd sense of humour,
while Teal'c merely raised an eyebrow, before following Jack and Sam down
along the rock trail.
Not counting Jack's sarcastic mutterings, the team made it to an open
clearing in silence. Footsteps had become clear half way down the trail, due
to the sandy floor. However, now standing at the end of the trail, admist
the rocky surfaced scenery, the footsteps had vanished.
"We have lost the footsteps." Teal'c declared, his eyes scanning the
surroundings with a sense of simularity.
"No kidding." Jack snarled at the Jaffa. He was hot, sweaty, exhausted and
just felt generally snappish.
"Hey guys. I think I've found Daniel." Sam commented as she started to make
her way closer to a cave's arched entrance. Its structure old and
intriguing, the darkness of its inside seeming to lure both Sam and Teal'C
closer to it.
"Okay. Talk about weird. Do you guys reckon Danny-boy went in there." Jack
got no reply from his companions as they appeared transfixed by the cave,
almost hypnotised.
"Oh brother." Jack whispered to himself as he realised he would have to
follow his team into the cave, most likely into another dangerous
adventure.
Daniel whipped his head around trying to catch another glimpse of the
flash of color that had beckoned to him from the bushes. He had been following it
for a few minutes now, through the trees, bushes, behind
rocks, down a slope and finally to this clearing. Each time he thought
he was close enough to get a good look, however, it would dart out of
view, but not before giving him an indication of which way to turn.
Had he thought about it, he probably would have been suspicious of
the way it was moving and leading him, but he didn't. He simply
followed. That was until he got to the entrance of a cave. Reaching
down to switch on the small light attached to the strap of his backpack,
then looked into the cave once again.
The light illuminated the inside dimly, casting eerie shadows over
the walls which were covered in faded drawings. They seemed to depict a
battle of some sort. He could clearly see the people shown carrying
some kind of a weapon and rising against a central figure and its
guards. Parts, however, had faded away to almost nothing.
The drawings continued, almost in a comic book type of form, showing
scene after scene. They continued around the corner, into another area
of the cave. Daniel walked slowly, eyes glued to the drawings as the
story unfolded.
He never looked down, or maybe he would have spotted the hole in the
floor he was heading straight for. His foot reached out to land on
what should have been solid ground, but instead plunged into the hole,
throwing him off balance. His arms swung wildly for a moment,
frantically looking for something to grab onto, before he was completely
swallowed by the hole.
He felt himself falling, tiny branches hitting against him as he flew
past. One of them knocked the light on his uniform off, leaving him to
fall in complete darkness. His mind flashed to the scene of Alice in
"Alice in Wonderland" falling down the rabbit hole. Then he felt himself
hit solid ground.
He fell on his back, thankful that the backpack had taken the brunt of the abuse.
His body was at an angle and he could feel sand under his
hands. He tried to manoeuvre to sit up, but the movement sent him into a
slide down the slope he had fallen onto. He slid about a hundred feet,
before his feet made contact with a wall, halting his slide.
He could see nothing around him and reasoned that he must be in an
underground cave system. He was amazed that the fall hadn't knocked him
out. He tried to get up again, but too quickly it turned out as his
forehead smacked into the ceiling of the tunnel only inches from his
head. His mind had only seconds to register the pain before he slumped
back down, unconscious.

All Daniel felt was pain, like someone was hitting him over the
head with a baseball bat over and over again. It felt like he was
swimming in a black sea of water. Slowly he tried to swim up to the
world of consciousness. That was when he realised that someone was
talking to him.
Although he had no idea what the person was saying he thought
that whoever it was didn't sound too threatening. Slowly he opened his
eyes and he saw a young girl, maybe 16 or 17 leaning over him with a
damp piece of cloth pressed to his head.
"er...Hi" Daniel said to the girl sounding slightly confused. The
girl jumped when she heard his voice and started talking excitedly in
a language he had never heard before.
"um... sorry" was all Danielsaid and put his hands in the air to try to explain to the girl that
he meant her no harm.
That was when he noticed to goa'uld ribbon device on her left
hand. He jumped up and hit his head again on the ceiling of the cave.
He felt a wave of pain overcome him and fell to the ground again.
The girl was at his side again in seconds.
"Are you all right" she whispered to him at the same time she was
checking his new head injury."
She didn’t sound goa'uld, Daniel thought to himself. He looked
up at her and all he could think of to say was "Hi". She smiled at him.
"Hello" she said to him.
She looks scared. I wonder why? Daniel thought to himself. "Hello, my
name is Daniel Jackson, I fell down that hole" Daniel said sheepishly
and pointed upwards. "I'm not going to hurt you". The girl’s face
lightened considerably when he said this.
"So you are not one of Ammut's bounty hunters then?" She asked him.
"No, no I'm definitely not."
He looked at her hand suspiciously. She noticed this. "I am not
goa'uld" she told him. She didn't offer up anymore information on the
subject. "Come with me, we have to clean out those wounds" she said and
offered him a hand.
They started walking in silence, Daniel was trying to figure out
what Ammut, the god of the Underworld would want with a child. She
probably has a goa'uld inside her he thought to himself, but why
hadn’t it awakened yet? Daniel was so lost in thought that he didn't
notice that there was light ahead of them.
They walked out into the daylight and when Daniel got a good look at
the girl he realised that she couldn't be more then 15. "What's your
name?" he asked her.
"My name is Isbeth" she replied. "If you go in
that direction through the forest", she pointed to a densely wooded
area, "you will get back to the cave and to your friends"
She turned around and started walking in the other direction. "Wait"
Daniel called after her. She turned around and looked at him. "You said
that you thought I was one of Ammut's bounty hunters. Why is he after
you?" Daniel asked.
When she didn’t reply he tried something else.
"Come with me, me and my friends will help you get away from him"
She looked at him for a minute, trying to figure out if he was serious.
Didn’t he know that helping an out lay would mean death?
Suddenly she heard a voice from inside the forest. "Hey Danny, where
the hell have you been?"
"Its OK, they are my friends, they won't hurt
you" Daniel said to her because she looked like she was about to
bolt.
Jack, Sam and Teal'c came out of the woods to find Daniel standing a
few feet away from a young girl. Teal'c was the first to notice that
she was wearing the ribbon device.
"She is goa’uld O'Neill" he told Jack and aimed his staff weapon...

"No, guys, it’s alright. This is, um, well she’s friendly" Daniel started.
Teal’c obligingly lowered his staff weapon, and Daniel turned back to Isbeth. "What did you say your name was again?"
Isbeth didn’t reply, her green eyes wide with terror. Daniel followed her gaze back towards his friends, who were trying their best to look friendly. He caught a brief flash of movement in the bushes behind Sam, and realised this must be the cause of Isbeth’s fear.
"What in damnation is that?" Daniel cursed.
Jack and Teal’c looked in the direction Daniel and Isbeth were starring but failed to see anything.
"Danny, you’re not still getting hallucinations from that sacophagus thing are you?" questioned Jack, desperately trying to make sense of a situation that was quickly getting the better of him.
"I, I think it’s one of Ammut’s guards" stammered Isbeth. "It keeps following me, maybe till others come to help it."
Whilst Daniel, Jack and Teal’c tried to reassure Isbeth, Sam cautiously moved towards the bushes, gun at the ready. She was almost at the bushes when there was a quick flash, which was followed seconds later by another flash, some twenty metres further into the woods.
Sam followed without hesitation.
Jack turned just in time to see Sam disappearing into the woods.
"Not again" he sighed. "Carter, get back here."
"I don’t think she can" responded Daniel.
Jack raised an eyebrow, silently asking for an explanation.
"Well, it’s kind of hypnotic. You just get this all out desire to follow it."
Posted 31 March 1999
"So, let me get this straight. You got hypnotised by one of those…..
whatever it is…. and that’s why you went running off with no warning?"
Jack asked.
Daniel looked sheepishly at the ground. "Umm…. Yeah, basically."
"And it would do this because……." Jack urged.
Isabeth quickly rose to Daniel’s defense. "I have seen Ammut’s
guards use this trick many times. It is designed to weaken the enemy by
slowly destroying it until only a few members remain."
"Well, that’s just great!" Jack exclaimed. "You’re telling me that
we just wait around here till it decides to come back and lead another
one of us off!"
Daniel cut in. "It could very well take her to the same place it
took me." He gingerly touched the growing bruise on his forehead. "I
think it was hoping the fall would kill me."
Isabeth nodded. "That is likely."
Jack sighed. He definitely did not like the turn this mission was
taking. "Alright then, let’s see if we can beat Carter there, then and
stop her from flinging herself down some hole in the ground."

Little did the team know that Sam had already reached the cave. Unlike
as with Daniel, the fading pictures on the rock walls held no interest
for Sam, and she easily skirted around the gaping hole.
"Now where'd it go?" Sam puffed to herself, as she continued deeper into
the perpetual darkness, illuminated only by the beam of her torch.
Finally she came to what appeared to be an archway carved into the rock.
"Let's see what's behind door number three" joked Sam as she proceeded
through the archway.
Sam shivered slightly, and felt slightly uncomfortable as she passed
through into a large open cavern, but the feeling soon passed once she
was out from under the archway.
Puzzled, Sam turned back to look at the arch. It looked innocent enough,
except for a dark line painted within the arch.
"It is blood" a voice informed her. "And you are not a goa'uld."
Sam tried to discover the location of the voice, but the cavern had a
very bad echo.
"Which world do you travel from?" the voice questioned.
"I'm from Earth. Do you know of it?" asked Sam.
"Are you of Master Hammond's mountain?"
Talk about informed, Sam thought to herself, wondering why she felt so
compelled to answer questions posed by an unidentified who knows what.
"Yes, she replied. "I'm Sam Carter of SG1."
It must have been the right answer to give, as the voice revealed the
rest of itself to be a young dark haired girl.
"I am Avenahar, daughter of Master Bra'tac. Why are you protecting that
cursed goa'uld? I have been trying to kill it, and just when I am about
to accomplish this, you prevent it."
Sam looked at Ven for a minute, surprised at what she had just said.
"Is'beth is not goa’uld, I would have sensed it if she was....wait a
minute if you sensed that I was not goa’uld you should've sensed the=
same about Is'beth."
Ven nodded, "I can only tell if there is a goa’uld inside someone at a
close distance, that is why I lured you in here, to check if you were
goa’uld and if you were it would have been easier if I separated you
from your group first."
Sam looked at Ven, she looked like she had enough weapons to start
World War 3, but she was not pointing any weapons at Sam, if fact she
didnt seem to be at all disturbed by Sam's presance.
"I still have my orders", Ven started "And they were to kill the goa’uld and its host and
I will do just that..."
"So you would just kill an inocent child" Sam shouted at her, not liking at
all were this conversation was headed.
"She is far from inocent" Ven said calmly "even if she is no longer
goa’uld, she still posesses all their knowledge and she would use that
knowledge agensed us, as she knows no different"
"She saved my friends life, the friend that you tried to kill" Sam said.
It was Vens turn to look surprised " She saved his life?" Sam nodded.
Suddenly Jack and Teal'c burst into to cave and pointed their
weapons at Ven. "Are you OK captain, Jack asked" not taking his eyes
off Ven.
"I'm fine sir, were are Daniel and Is'beth?" asked Sam.
"They're waiting outside, I didnt want Danny falling into anymore holes"
he said and looked from Sam to Ven.
"She says she is the daughter of Brac'tac" Sam started "and she knows
about the SGC, sir" Both Jack and Teal'c looked shocked at this .
"I was unaware that Brac'tac had a child" said Teal'c in his
usuall emotionless voice.
Ven took this as her cue to speak up "I am not
his natural daughter but has raised me sinse I was a small child. Why
are you helping this goa’uld child, she is a danger to everyone
including your selves."
"That kid, a danger, she is sitting outside
scared out of her mind, and you think she is a danger" Jack was startled
by a voice behind him.
" She thinks I am a danger because the goa’uld
inside me was sympathetic to her peoples need to get rid of the system
lords and I know many of their plans on stopping the system lords. She
thinks that I will give this information to the most powerfull of the
system lords to defete this resistance. I would rather die then see that
happen" Is'beth finished in a low voice.
Something Is'beth said must have impressed Ven as her stance softened and she
seemed less willing tofight. "I see that you have takin after your goa’uld, I'm glad because
I really didnt want to have to kill you" Ven said.
Daniel came running into the cave and ran up to Jack. "Serpent guards
have came through the gate, at least a dozen and they are headed this
way" Daniel said sounding out of breath.
"Ammuts guards have come for me" Is'beth whispered..........
......Both Jack and Sam looked at her, it was clear that she was
terrified.
"Ok, Carter can your uhhh.....new friend be trusted enough
not to turn us over to the goa’uld"
Carter looked at Ven for a minute and repied "I think so, sir"
"I was hoping you would say that, ok campers lets get out of here before the welcoming commity get here" said Jack looking around the cavern "Is there any other way out of here" he asked Ven.
"Yes, down the hole" said Ven with a slight smile on her face, when she noticed Daniel's reaction to her statement. Jack looked down sceptically at the hole and sighed "Ow well here it goes, Carter you go down first, be carefull to watch your footing though" He looked over at Ven "You next" he said, it was clear that he didnt really trust her. "Teal'c, you next then Is'beth and Daniel and I'll take the rear, and Daniel this time please dont fall!"
One by one each of them climbed into the darkness of the hole..............
