...................................

"All I need to know, I learned from "DRACULA". Well, not quite, but reading Stoker's novel at age 12 did change my life. The Count introduced me to the whole universe of horror, fantasy, and SF. As a result, I became a writer and decided to major in English, eventually earning a Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine. Not the greatest career choice as a path to fame and fortune, but satisfying in its way. A common interest in SF even led me to meet, as a teenager, and marry the man I'm still married to. Reading C.S. Lewis for his fantasy content converted me into an Episcopalian. So, in a real sense, I owe most of my life's direction to "DRACULA".

Over the years I've edited and written several books on the supernatural in literature. Particularly well-received were "DRACULA: THE VAMPIRE AND THE CRITICS" (1988), the first anthology of scholarship on Stoker's novel, and "THE VAMPIRE IN LITERATURE: A CRITICAL BIBLIOGRAPHY" (1989). Every January I produce an annual update to the fiction list of the bibliography. My semiannual fanzine, "THE VAMPIRE"S CRYPT", consisting of original stories, Catherine B. Krusberg's exhaustive review column, "Vampires in Print", and some interviews, verse, and art, has its nineteenth issue in Spring 1999. For information on the zine and my books, see:

My first novel, "SHADOW OF THE BEAST", was released by the Design Image Group in December, 1998. It's a werewolf tale set in Annapolis, where I've lived for the past few years, and the heroine, like me, works as a proofreader for the Maryland General Assembly. The first chapter is posted at:

The book is available on Amazon.com. For information on Design Image and their other books, including two vampire anthologies in which I have stories, visit their site:

An electronis publisher, The Hard Shell Word Factory, has accepted one of my vampire novels, "DARK CHANGELING", which will probably be available on their site:

around the end of May, 1999.
