~The Only Times I Miss You~

I miss you when I first get up

When I realize you're not there in my bed

See that empty pillow that ought to hold your head

And know you won't be with me, sharing that first cup

When I turn on my stereo to listen to a song

I'd start to sing and want you there, so you could sing along

When I sing without you, it really seems to me

Your absence leaves the song without a melody

If you were at the front door, I think I'd go berserk

When you kissed me goodby, and sent me off to work

I'd hold you for a moment, my fingers in your hair,

Rejoice, knowing on return, I'd find you waiting there

When I am at work, you ought to know that I

Wish I could call you up, if only to say, "Hi"

I'd tell you that I love you, and you'd say, "You know,

'member I told you so?"

You really should have called in sick;

When I see trees and flowers, and things of great beauty

I miss you  'cause you're not there to see these things with me

For if you were, I'm sure, I'd look across at you

And revel in the knowing, you see that beauty too

Of all the times I miss you, I'm trying to recall

But there are just too many, to think about them all

So I'll just put this thought, high upon some shelf

I miss you when I'm with someone, or when I'm by myself

And those are the only times I miss you
