Chuck D - Rape Race & Reality - Published 1997
Chuck D, the man who's work is more often regarded as poetry than lyrics, has finally released his first book. Entitled Rap, Race & Reality, this book covers the black person's role in all aspects of society. But the main focus of the book is on black entertainers and black athletes and of course a couple war stories from the PE archives. This book, although not containing many revelations, has a lot of interesting facts and stories that might shock a lot of readers. Some of the statistics about crimes commited by the different races don't exactly coincide with the stereotype presented by the media fascists. Also a lot of the inside looks at the entertainment biz are real eye openers. On top of that, Chuck D is an amazing storyteller and when you read his book, each page just seems to melt into the next until the next thing you know, you're finished the book. There's no parts in the book where you want to skip ahead - because it's all so damn good. The only thing that might turn some people off would be the Nation Of Islam rhetoric which this book has no shortage of. Aside from that though, this book is definitely worth checking out. It just went in to paperback print, so now you can get it for madd cheap. Also, be on the lookout for his second book which is coming out in 1999 entitled Anatomy Of A Rap Circus.
