GWAR - Carnival Of Chaos - Recorded 1997
I met GWAR's 7th album with scepticism, as their previous album was mediocre at best. I wondered if the buttloving space marauders had lost it. I was wrong. This new album brings back everything that made GWAR great (minus flailing limbs and choda guzzling priests) and brings it back with SUCH VARIETY. The banshee wails of Oderus Urungus are as strong as ever, as is the primal drumming of Jizmak The Gusher. There's a few of the classical sounding GWAR tunes (Let's Blame The Lightman, PreSchool Prostitute). But the rest of the album is all over the place in terms of style. Sex Cow is a spoof hillbilly song. Don't Need A Man is a Slymenstra jazz solo. And Billy BadAss could only be described as Heavy Metal skatting. The only downside of this album is that some of the riffs are reused from older GWAR tunes, which makes you wonder if this album was a little rushed. Aside from that though this album is great - with that great GWAR sound. If you're one of the people that loves the raping, murdering & perverted romps of those Scumdogs Of The Universe, then buy this album. If not, you've never gotten it and you never will.
