SNOW POEM
(title suggested by ms. A. D'Amore of Schnecksville, PA)

If I waited for you to disappear
into the falling snow,
your back a target
for the kaleidoscopes of heaven,
your own eyes drifting from white to white to sullen shadows
calmed by the whispering sky...

If I stood in the vale
without getting cold,
feeling your presence diminish
as a ghost would a god's...

If I fell into your angel,
weary limbs and flake-dampened hair
slipping into this provisional grave
before my windsheared soul followed in collapse...

If I gave up and simply prayed
while the heavens continued
their displacement of frozen cells and souls...

then would you return?
