DEUCE BIGALOW — MALE GIGOLO. Color. Runs 88 minutes.  Rated R. With Rob Schneider, William Forsythe.

Hapless Deuce (Schneider), aquarium cleaner, enters the title profession while apartment sitting for such a man.

This, a "moron movie"—the kind I know is an appalling piece of junk but which I am ashamed to admit has some redeeming moments—illustrates well Schnei-der's first-rate sense of comedy.
Though very tasteless—and I'm embarassed to admit that some of the more raunchy humor had me in near-hysterics—there is a kind of appealing gentleness to dumb old Deuce when he gives his customers pleasure by bringing out the best in them.

Do not expect a good movie if you go to see this but rather a really moronic one peppered with some hysterically funny moments. * 1/2

AN IDEAL HUSBAND.  Color.  Panavision.  Runs 97 minutes.  Rated PG-13.  With Rupert Everett, Cate Blanchett, Minnie Driver, Julianne Moore.

The arrival in decorous Victorian London, circa 1895, of one Mrs. Chevely (Moore) upsets the status quo.  Blackmail and scandal follow.

A bland romantic effort that is notable mainly for its superb production values rather than for its melodramatic plot, this will appeal to those viewers fond of sumptuous costumes, sets, and jewelry.
The cast acquits itself well in the tedium but Blanchett is particularly effective as the wife who isn't quite sure just what her husband's past indiscretions might be. **

Chris Peters, a resident of Amado, is a movie buff who works as a teacher and heads up the mathematics department at Rio Rico High School.
