Anne Geddes was born and raised in Queensland, Australia, but now resides in Auckland, New Zealand with her husband Kel Geddes and their two daughters. Anne has captured the heart of millions with her beautiful photographs. Not only is she recognized in the United States, she is recognized in over 50 countries, spanning North America, Europe, the British Isles, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and Asia. About 11 million books and other non-book products have been sold worldwide. Anne has won a series of prestigious award including the "Kodak Fotobuchpreis 1998", the most prestigious award an illustrated book can receive in Germany. Many of Anne's photographs have been published internationally in newspapers, magazines, and other journals. Anne says that her work mirrors the joy and love in the children who will form the future of the planet. She says, "To be able to capture on film the innocence, trust, and happiness that is inherent in the next generation is a very special responsibility. It's work that rewards me daily with a great deal of personal satisfaction." Anne also strives to help the children that aren't happy enough to be put into her books and calendars. Anne raised over $50,000 for the prevention of child abuse through the sales of her 1992 calendar. Since then, annual Anne Geddes calendar editions have been bestsellers, and designated funds have been donated to help prevent child abuse in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The Geddes Philanthropic Trust was formed Anne and her husband Kel to be a reflection of the values of Anne and her work. One of the main aspects of the Geddes Philanthropic Trust is on the prevention of child abuse and neglect, and in particular breaking the cycle of this worldwide problem. The trust works with many organizations globally, in a variety of ways, ranging from cash grants, to consideration in the use of Anne's images within their own prevention programs. Consideration is given to all other applications. All applications should be made in writing to: Mr. Terry McGrath 2 York Street Parnell Auckland New Zealand Fax: (+64) 9-379-7337 If you do know or suspect that a child is being ill-treated or neglected, please contact one of the organizations listed on the official Anne Geddes web site: http://www.annegeddes.com I think Anne Geddes is a role model for all photographers and artists who want to spread peace and love throughout the world. I admire her strength, talent, and efforts to help children being abused. She deserves a Nobel Peace Prize in my book. |
